Anyone else have this problem with the 2800? Suddenly the receive just quit working.

This radio was bought new in January and put into use on my Digipeater for APRS. I went into the shack today and noticed there was no activity on UI-View but the receive light on my KPC-3 was still coming on with each packet being received.

I unplugged the audio cable from the external speaker jack and no audio from the internal speaker, yes of course the squelch was open and the volume up all the way. The digipeater runs open squelch all the time anyway.

So then i went back to a post on here a while back in which we discussed pulling discriminator audio from the inside of the 2800M and made that connection instead. Still no good. Just enough signal level there to light the receive LED on the TNC but not enough to have the packet decoded and displayed by the TNC.

Any ideas? Going to send it back this week for warranty repair if nothing else, but not having the speaker work is no big deal if i could just get audio out of it for the TNC.

Connected the TNC to another radio and all is well. Put a mic on the 2800 and the transmit is perfect.

So its just the receive that went kaput.

Forgot to mention, when it receives something you do get an indication on the display, so it does "receive" is just doesn't provide any audio.

NLY: my 2800's external speaker jack went he the heck like about two weeks new, wiggle the plug in the jack first, keep checking things, i'm not trying to be a smart guy or anything, but most of the time it's the super simple stuff that will get ya, as far as i remember the 2800 did'nt have any audio output problems, the 2500 did though, let us know what ya find.... Well i spent about an hour wiggling, jiggling, trying different speakers, etc. I even took the bottom cover off and checked things. Whatever killed it isn't going to be an easy fix, its boxed up and going back today to Yaesu. If they let me know what happened i will post back with an update.

Interestingly enough, the external speaker jack on mine went intermittent two days after i got it on the air. I found if i unplugged it and plugged it back in a few times i could get it working again. But this time its not the jack, as i checked for audio output from the audio amp with some small test leads and there is nothing there. Not even at the discriminator output on the small white connector between the two connectors for the control head.

So something in the receiver died. Hopefully yours won't do the same.
