I just became aware of Icom's new HF transceiver, the IC-7700. It looks good and the specs are also very impressive. No mentioning about the price yet. The information is to be found are on www.ab4oj.com.

Icom put an ethernet port on that thing. Damn copycats! Ten-tec had it on the new Omni VII first.

New IC7700
B U T Look at the receiver specs - it says "double conversion". At this price point it should be QUADRUPLE CONVERSION. Even my 1988 Icom IC751 has quad conversion. What's up with this?

Quad is not necessarily better than double conversion. #Remember, these appliances are now 80% digital computers with DSP and digital filtering. #At $6 kilobucks, i'm sure the ICOM engineers didn't nip and tuck at the specs to hit a price point. #The true test will be when the ARRL's journal, QST runs a test report on the '7700 with the usual results stated thusly "...the radio while extremely expensive, proves to be a great contest rig and will be a nice addition to anyone's radio shack..." #I might have written the comment as verbatim, since QST, like Consumer Reports and Toyota/Honda reviews, can't resist a good reveiew for one of it's greates advertisers. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif :0
