did you try hooking to a dummy loadl that is know to be good. My cantenna had some loose connections after 30 years.
hi swr is almost certain to be feed line or antenna related.
give us more info on your set up and how you are testing swr.

SWR has nothing to do with your rig, unless of course your SWR meter is busted.
SWR is stading waves on your antenna and feedline system. As the other poster said, tell us about your antenna, and tell us the method you are using to check the SWR. A lot of times, the problem is the method, not the antenna itself.

I am going by the SWR Meter that is in the rig when you go to tune there is a icon with and X that tells you you have a High SWR ... the coax is 18 Feet long the mount is a luggage rack mount that is Grounded to the frame of my truck the rig is also grounded to the frame

While the shortest run possible is always advised, coax length has little to do with your SWR problem. That is a CB myth.
You need to tune your antenna, bottom line. Or check your coax for shorts or poor solder connections.
And really, an external swr/power meter would be advisable, if you can't properly read the one on your rig. I'd Get with a friend who owns one if I were you and adjust your antenna accordingly.

.sorry was on wrong post
When my FT100D has done the same thing, the cause has always been either of two things: #either the ground wire has become compromised or the ATAS-120 antenna was having a problem.
Re the ground, when my ground wire came loose, naturally the auto-tuning antenna was unable to find a suitable match.
Re the antenna, the servo that moves the coil up and down within the housing got stuck - or, more accurately, the coil itself got stuck. #A light rap to the side of the antenna housing has always been sufficient to dislodge the thing and it was then able to tune correctly. Happens seldomly, but it does happen.
Good luck.
