You might want to pay him a visit, he shouldn't be hard to find at 1500 watts on a CB channel:

Sad, really sad ! I think "Kleetus" shows most profoundly what is wrong with the ham radio situation here in this country when he says, "But yeah, you might want to keep moving because if the FCC finds you... you're gonna be hurting. Although anymore I don't know if anybody even cares about HAM, shortwave, FRS and CB channels."
I certainly hope he is wrong

1500 watts is not really going to benifit you at all on CB.
Locally I think 400 watts is the max you can probably do to get more range. Anymore all it does is bring s meters up.
For dx I guess some power can help but being E-skip mostly all they need is 12 watts.
Other then overcoming hilly areas I have never seen the need for people to run power on CB.
To really add it up 1500w is not that much compared to 84kw amps for cb being sold online http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Jim, if you look back upon other threads, you will see VE7NOT right there when discussing CB ...
You are correct .... "tis a sad state of affairs " ....
A CB'er with a ham ticket ...
Gotta get one of those rigs ... NOT ...
Also, concernng the SSTV thing, it is already a mess ... The " strange warbling sounds " are not recognized by neewbies as an actual data signal ...
SSTV has been around for a LOOOOOOONG time on 14.230 ... Surprise http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif??
It is a shame ... Of course, this should be in another thread ..
" NOT " sorry ....

Move the S-Meter. That, my boy, is the exact reason!
Being "loud and proud" is nice. But sending that needle all the way across to the stop, thats an EGO FEEDER.
I'm sure when he walks in to the meetings and his buddies look at him, pat him on the back, and say "man, you were s-9 plus a million on my modified swr meter" he just beams with pride.

Ohhh... it's funnier than that.
Google something like 70,000 watt CB or something to that effect.
Maybe big radio CB - whatever.
Like I said - guys had 4 or 6 alternators and were pumping in 70KW into amps.
Here's the funny/sad thing.
Bubba just didn't have a clue.
He is standing right there when they were keying up!!!
A guy about 40 feet away was videotaping (files are there for download) and the tape kept ejecting everytime they keyed up.
You think that would be a sign.....
Kinda makes me think of the Rednecks of Comedy "There's your sign!"

There is another issue, however.
I'm having a feeling if the video machine is ejecting the tape, that perhaps the ability to breed may become impaired.
I wonder if they realize this when they stand there in that RF field http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have heard this "sentiment" expressed before in these so-called law abiding circles and, it seems to me that it is more wishful thinking by appliance operators than proven fact.
By the time that you can afford one of those 50+ Kw mobile stations, the trailer to haul it on and, the truck to pull it from place to place, you are already done making babies and, you are enjoying your money the way you want to, not your wife or kids.
Truth to be known, per-capita, more QRO operators run afoul of the high voltage because of poor safety procedures than those who struggle with reproductive problems; like the one that leaned over his open case amplifier with Gold chains dangling down from his neck. #I doesn't take a bunch of imagination to form a picture of what the final results were.
The 1500 watt S NJ CB'er is nothing more than pimple on the backside of his local radio community; if this guy was really creating problems in the local ham radio spectrum then the appropriate local ham radio clubs should work to take care of the problem.
Quote[/b] (KB1KIX @ May 09 2007,10:15)]Like I said - guys had 4 or 6 alternators and were pumping in 70KW into amps.
I want one of those alternators. By my figuring, 70kW at 12 volts [...naugh, naught, carry the 2, 60% efficient, double-naught...] requires 10,000 amps.
That's 2000 amps per alternator at running temperature. I definitely want one of those.
Of course, you need about 200 horsepower just to run those alternators, assuming they are reasonably efficient.
My suspicion is that they were supplying 70kW of amps with maybe 15kW of power, which should have produced some lovely clipped square waves and radiated spurious harmonics all over the RF spectrum.

What were you planning to do with that alternator, exactly?
FWIW, you don't need one of those "big strappers" to run anything within legal limit for ham radio.
In fact you can run 500w PEP SSB or CW with the stock alternator and an extra battery in the trunk. CHeck out K0BG's website (http://www.k0bg.com) for more info.
My next vehicle (pickup truck) is going to have a similar setup.

I was just doing the arithmetic. And engaging my sardonic wit.
But I could increase the number of batteries in my motorhome by a goodly amount with an alternator like one of those. Yes, the engine would die when I loaded it, but it wouldn't matter because all those batteries would make it unmoveable anyway.

Hi all,
Let me bring you up to speed on what lives at the South Jersey shore. His avatar clearly shows he lives in the Pine Barrens, home to the Pineys which are Jersey's own hillbillies without hills but plenty of billy. Then there are the wannabies driving around in bright shiny trucks (Pineys drive Red Neck Specials if they can afford $100 at the junk yard, ratty bicycles or walk) sporting bumper stickers that say "I'm proud to be a Piney from my head down to my hiney". By the looks of the truck I'd say he's the latter. I used to live there and can attest to the fact those CB pickumup trucks sporting center loads that look like they came out of a broadcast transmitter don't amount to so much as pimples on Larry the cable guy's butt.
Here's where I have a little fun;
"Personally, I would skip the fuse."
Yeah, they're a pain in the butt, a vehicle on fire is SO much fun.
"I have a CB radio with a 1500 watt amplifier. The amplifier can draw 100+ amps when using the radio."
That puny piece of crap doesn't qualify you as a CBer to begin with! So, how much does it draw without the radio?
"Yeah, 1500W is 125A."
119 actually, you get an F in arithmetic. Double it for a Class AB amp and double it again allowing for envelope expansion (PEP) and you have 476, more than twice the alternator output not counting the vehicle's electrical system demands. Nah, you don't need a fuse.
"I would fuse the line to the linear amp, though."
Who said this was a LINEAR amp?
"I bet the local hams in your area can help you."
Yeah, the boys over at Old Barney ARC would just LOVE to help you, heh heh heh.
"Kleetus what causes the lights to dim?"
Could it have something to do with you not being the brightest bulb in the house?
"Would extra batteries help it?"
Yeah, just toss batteries at it, you'll have plenty of room in the back once you get rid of the cows.
"Depending on how long you're keyed up, the alternator may not have a chance to react anyway."
Not after it's puddled on the ground under the engine compartment.
"Although anymore I don't know if anybody even cares about HAM, shortwave, FRS and CB channels."
Not CBers anyway, and they use impeccable grammar too.
"my name there is grease monkey"
Very appropriate for one who isn't even a mechanic and never heard of capitalization nor punctuation. BTW, which is the greater part, grease or the monkey?
"The Hams in the area are the ones that got me into 11 meter."
Knowing them as I do I'm not one bit surprised, they're smart enough to point you off down a sand track and keep you out of their hair. Personally I'd give you directions to Warren Grove. (The Air National Guard weapons range.)
"And by the way last year I bought my ARRL books to study for the General and Tech licenses and all the local Hams told me to go 11 meter and they were changing over!!"
HEE HEE HOO HAH HEE HEE HEE HOO... (gag, cough) oooOOOoooEEE!
"11 meter is huge in NJ."
So why do I hear nothing but background static and a song by Simon and Garfunkle running around in the back of my head?
Thanks for the laugh Klee-tor-us and friends, just mind the deer ticks and mosquitoes out in the pines. You can get encephalitis and suffer brain damage you know. I'll leave you with my quoting of a very appropriate license plate belonging to a used car dealer in Elizabeth. If you don't like what I write, SOSUME.

Warren has rather accurately summed up the Pines and Pineys. He left out the part about the women with no front teeth hangin' on the corner in Chatsworth.
"11m is huge" alright. It's right about 1100cm and yes, when I was still in NJ I tuned across it from time to time. Except for the occassional trucker on the NJ Turnpike, 11m is about as active as .52 simplex. And THAT funeral was in 1989.

When I first got married, our apartment was abut 1/2 mile from WABC's transmitter, (50,000 watts, clear channel). If I got up in the middle of the night and walked into the kitchen, without turning on the lights, the florescent fixture would glow in time with the modulation. Sitting in a truck with 70k must have some effect on the body.

Frightening. These people might actually be doing this on the public roads. You and I might be driving next to them.

NO he isn't running 70kW ,or anything like it,
He would need to convert around 321 bhp to electrical power after allowing for losses--via a convoluted belt!
Not in this universe!
The Box shown in "Big Radios" is quite small, maybe 1500 watts like the first poster was talking about.
Yes, no sign of a feeder that could handle 70 kW.
How do they measure power?

Have you seen a 70kW Dummy load?

Guess?
Fantasy?
By the way, I used to work in a Tx site which ran one 55kW AM MF Tx, One 10kW #AM MF Tx, One 50kW HF B/C
