Never mind I have it figured out. Touchpad no worky worky!
I have aquired a used Sony Vaio PCG-FX220 PIII 750 MHz laptop. I did a format and full install of WinXP Pro. Only problem is that the touch pad and its mouse buttons do not function and does not show up in the hardware device manager. I know it wasn't working before the reinstall of XP as well. I would think that if it is actually functional, XP would have found it and installed some generic driver for it. Since it didn't, I am assuming that the pad is not working and therefore not detected. Does that seem correct? I can use a usb mouse with no problem but wonder if the pad really doesn't work or just needs a specific driver to get it going. I know there are some Sony specific drivers and software for this laptop. I tried their touchpad driver which I believe is only a patch for XP and it prevented the OS from loading so I gave up after a couple tries. Are there any particular issues common with these touchpads and the associated buttons that cause failures? Do they tend to be failure prone or are they usually quite reliable? Thanks. Mike.
