View Full Version : Bees and Mobile phones.!!!???

I have heard today that transmissions from mobile phone towers are the possible cause of the decline in bee populations across Europe and the USA, apparently the bees are getting lost and dying because of the frequency of the transmissions of phone towers, does any one know more as this could have far reaching implications if true. Without bees no crops are going to get fertilized and that means no food. Oh well the end of the world is nigh....?

Actually, the bees can hear Cellular transmissions and are so distraught by what they hear they commit suicide. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
All kidding aside, bee populations have been on the decline for many years. Most of the decline can be attributed to pesticides but some is also attributed to population growth of humans and the destruction of natural habitat. Bees like to live in quiet areas away from other animals including humans.

it has nothing to do
with destruction of natural habitat
bee colonies
do just fine around humans
unless they are dosed by insectides
and cell phone towers do not
have anything to do with colony probs
bees use the sun to navagate
much colony die off
over the last few years
has been due to a parasite
called # the bee mite
insectide die off
worst case was about 15 / 18 years ago
a now banned insectide
caused all kinds of trouble
for commerical bee keepers in France
in last year or so
a major die off has happened
on the east coast and in east texas
some on the west coast
its called " colony collapse"
it is happening in places
many miles away from
from cell phone towers
large percentage of bees
in north america are domestic
big commercial bee operations
truck from place to place hundreds of hives
Mac
The whole "cell phones are killing bees" is more FUD from the anti-cellphone movement.
Those are the same idiots that believe that cell towers give them cancer.
I cannot believe that people are actually taking these people seriously.

Colony collapse is real. #Nobody KNOWS exactly whats causing it right now, though dead bees are giving up some interesting results. #If ya listen to Coast-TO-Coast and Art Bel you will hear all kinds of suspicions, ideas and maybe even a theory here and there. #Heck a broke clock is rigtht twice a day. #I suspect once its nailed down, it will be something logical and very understandable. #Until then its all just conjecture. #That does not diminish the seriousness of the problem though.
Einstein has been credited with saying if the bees go, humans have 4 years left. #Snopes claims he never said that. #I am as suspicious of Snopes and I am of the ones that claim they know whats causing colony collapse.

The whole thing came up at a family BBQ and I thought it was a bit far fetched but then again wondered if there was an element of truth in it, I had not heard of the problem other than I was aware of the decline of bee populations, however I was under the impression it was possibly polution or some similar cause. Thats why I put this to people on QRZ who might be more in the know than myself. I like the theory that they are committing suicide after listening in though! 73 Max

I'll try the cellphone out. Thanks for the tip!
We've had to abandon our backyard due to a nest of africanized bees that is located somewhere in our house's walls or attic.
Can't see the nest, so we can't hose it down with soapy water.
I'll turn on a cellphone and hang it up by thier access hole at night, when they calm down a little.
Everybody in the house has been attacked at least three times so far. Sometimes they crawl out of light fixtures and appear in the house. - One at a time though, thanks for small favors.
I hope the cellphone does the trick.
I thought I had a bright idea at one point, but my wife shot it down... I was going to buy a box of cheap cigars and hook them up to an old vacuume cleaner so that it poots out thick clouds of obnoxious smoke. - My wife reminded me that even though the contraption was going to be put up in the attic, the smell would permeate the house and it would always smell like Uncle Boyd had just been by for a visit, for months or even years afterward.
So that was that, and now I'm ready to try the cellphone idea out.

European honeybees are an exotic species on this continent. We're in trouble because we've killed-off native bee species through pesticides and habitat loss.
However, colony collapse disorder appears to be caused by a fungus.

From what I've read, Africanized bees are not affected by this fungus.
Hire an exterminator, those things are nothing to tolerate.

A coworker of mine is a beekeeper and he's seen no change in his bee colonies.

For several years I had a few honey bee hives right in my backyard. They did well, I had more honey than I needed and was able to sell some of the excess.
The city was concerned that my bees might get someone, other than me, so I had to remove the hives. I sold them and all my bee keeping stuff to a fellow who lives out of town.
He had his problems getting the hives going but last I knew he was doing alright with them and has even built a few new hives to contain his swarm.
He has actually been concerned that there are to many bees now and they are building their own hives in old buildings on his land. I’m concerned that they might actually be Africanized bees taking over.
So far the ones he has sent in to be checked are not Africanized.
Sometimes I wish we hadn’t introduced the European honey bees here in the states. The native American bees had no stinger at all. They also didn’t make much honey so the Euro bees were imported. No one knew they would kill the American bees and take over.
Same deal with the African bees. They make more honey but are real hard to keep in one place. If they feel threatened or something the whole colony will take wing and leave for some other place. They can sting several times before they die and are just not nice at all.

I wonder how many people realize that the RF from a cell tower is practically nil when you are close to the tower?
I have mapped cell tower coverage and I know that the signal peaks about 1/8 to 1/4 mile away at ground level and then drops significantly as you get closer to the tower. #The effect is more pronounced with taller towers. #The effect is also one that presents engineers with problems and requires expensive 'down angle' antennas to help correct the issue.
I also doubt the bee's antennae are sufficient to recieve cell frequencies as a 1/4 wave at 900 MHz is just a bit under 3 inches long. #The bees would need some sort of a base load just to get over the ambient noise level, that is IF they also have some sort of discriminator that would be able to detect the modulation.
First the birds were disappearing, now the bees...soon, there'll be no sex at all.

Well, that's a problem. They're not finding deceased remains. The bees just disappear.
Could this BEE the reason...

Where is your proof to back up your statement the "pesticides are the major reason for the decline in the bee population"? You have absolutely no solid reason for this statement. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Just what is "Bee mite insectcide"? #There is a bee mite but a a "Bee mite insectcide" #Give me a break. #I own and operate a little farming operation of 2800 acres. #There are bees there and we also spray damaging pests such as weeds with herbicides and insect pests with selective insecticides. #The bees do just fine thank you. #There is a lot of mis-information out there and most from well meaning but ignorant people. #Hell man, we need the bees to pollinate the crops so we take care of them. # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I think you have it!! That GW bush and Halliburton have decided to destroy the planet and started with the weather modification machine, the 911 attacks and now the bees. The demos need to fund a multi billion dollar study and find out why.

The earth is not cooling.
Only a complete fool would think that.
Broaden your horizons, OM. Outside of North America in some places they're experiencing record high temperatures with water shortages and forest fires to go along with it.
I don't know where you get the impression that the Earth is cooling.

If it isn't microwave radiation from cell phone receivers that has been killing bees perhaps it is RF from ham transmitters. Bees don't have to be resonant for RF to hurt them. Roasted bees have been found in the traps of trap antennas. Now that there is no longer a CW requirement for a ham license there may be enough ham activity to kill bee activity as well as cee bee activity.
I recently read that bees don't communicate by buzzing. They can't copy any audio tones. They do little dances to tell those in their hive where good nectar is to be located...and they don't need any GPS to then locate the nectar.
The Earth isn't cooling...The weather is only getting cooler where cheese is made.
