The government has ordered an Internet auction site to remove an advertisement in which a Brazilian man offered to sell his wife for about $50.

The Secretariat of Public Policies for Women announced late Friday it had ordered Mercado Livre, partially owned by eBay Inc., to remove the ad and warned it was violating a law banning the offer or sale of "human organs, people, blood, bones or skin."

The advertisement was no longer visible on the site Saturday.

When I was in high school some guy offered to sell me his girl friend. I passed them in the hallway and the guy said, "hey would you like to buy this girl ??". I said, "sure" and laughed.

I passed them by a little later and I heard the girl say, "look, there's the guy that you were going to sell me to". Again he said, "this girl is still for sale, do you want to buy her". Unfortunately I didn't have any money with me at the time. I wonder if he ever sold her. These days he could have put her on ebay.

$50 http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif Was that the starting price? What was the buy it now price? Any married man knows wives are way more expensive than $50.

I guess he thought if he sold her, he'd be off the hook.

Little did he know she'd take half of what he owns-probably half the $50 too.

I wasn't having much luck with the dating scene so I put an ad in our local newspaper that simply said, "Wife wanted." I got over 400 replies, all the same: "Take mine."

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif # I don't know of anyone in his right mind that would want to buy a "used" wife.
#It would be similar to buying a used car. #How many husbands has she had already?
And what condition is she in? #
#Don't tell me she is in perfect condition. #I just don't believe it. #
#Ha!

How about his feedback score? - Have eBayers been satisfied with other wives he has sold online? How many successful transactions has he been involved in? Do the photographs give a meaningful representation of the product? Are problem areas glossed over or hidden? Is the shipping expense reasonable?

If we do not ask ourselves questions like this, it is very easy to end up getting more ( or less ) than we bargained for online, these days.

I visited Tiajuana many years ago. There was nobody wanting to sell their wife to me at that time but a young Mexican boy asked me if I wanted to lease out his sister for a short time.

I'd check the terms of that lease.

Its likely you might come away with a few clauses that aren't specified in full....
