I have heard today that transmissions from mobile phone towers are the possible cause of the decline in bee populations across Europe and the USA, apparently the bees are getting lost and dying because of the frequency of the transmissions of phone towers, does any one know more as this could have far reaching implications if true. Without bees no crops are going to get fertilized and that means no food. Oh well the end of the world is nigh....?

Actually, the bees can hear Cellular transmissions and are so distraught by what they hear they commit suicide. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
All kidding aside, bee populations have been on the decline for many years. Most of the decline can be attributed to pesticides but some is also attributed to population growth of humans and the destruction of natural habitat. Bees like to live in quiet areas away from other animals including humans.

it has nothing to do
with destruction of natural habitat
bee colonies
do just fine around humans
unless they are dosed by insectides
and cell phone towers do not
have anything to do with colony probs
bees use the sun to navagate
much colony die off
over the last few years
has been due to a parasite
called # the bee mite
insectide die off
worst case was about 15 / 18 years ago
a now banned insectide
caused all kinds of trouble
for commerical bee keepers in France
in last year or so
a major die off has happened
on the east coast and in east texas
some on the west coast
its called " colony collapse"
it is happening in places
many miles away from
from cell phone towers
large percentage of bees
in north america are domestic
big commercial bee operations
truck from place to place hundreds of hives
Mac
The whole "cell phones are killing bees" is more FUD from the anti-cellphone movement.
Those are the same idiots that believe that cell towers give them cancer.
I cannot believe that people are actually taking these people seriously.

Colony collapse is real. #Nobody KNOWS exactly whats causing it right now, though dead bees are giving up some interesting results. #If ya listen to Coast-TO-Coast and Art Bel you will hear all kinds of suspicions, ideas and maybe even a theory here and there. #Heck a broke clock is rigtht twice a day. #I suspect once its nailed down, it will be something logical and very understandable. #Until then its all just conjecture. #That does not diminish the seriousness of the problem though.
Einstein has been credited with saying if the bees go, humans have 4 years left. #Snopes claims he never said that. #I am as suspicious of Snopes and I am of the ones that claim they know whats causing colony collapse.

The whole thing came up at a family BBQ and I thought it was a bit far fetched but then again wondered if there was an element of truth in it, I had not heard of the problem other than I was aware of the decline of bee populations, however I was under the impression it was possibly polution or some similar cause. Thats why I put this to people on QRZ who might be more in the know than myself. I like the theory that they are committing suicide after listening in though! 73 Max

I'll try the cellphone out. Thanks for the tip!
We've had to abandon our backyard due to a nest of africanized bees that it located somewhere in our house's walls or attic.
Can't see the nest, so we can't hose it down with soapy water.
I'll turn on a cellphone and hang it up by thier access hole at night, when they calm down a little.
Everybody in the house has been attacked at least three times so far. Sometimes they crawl out of light fixtures and appear in the house. - One at a time though, thanks for small favors.
I hope the cellphone does the trick.
I thought I had a bright idea at one point, but my wife shot it down... I was going to buy a box of cheap cigars and hook them up to an old vacuume cleaner so that it poots out thick clouds of obnoxious smoke. - My wife reminded me that even though the contraption was going to be put up in the attic, the smell would permeate the house and it would always smell like Uncle Boyd had just been by for a visit, for months or even years afterward.
So that was that, and now I'm ready to try the cellphone idea out.
