it's nice that this was sorted out. i would have expected the funeral home to have someone from the family identify the deceased before he was prepared for burial.

Maybe the title of the post is incorrect. I'm having trouble understanding how a "Missing" corpse can be buried in the "Wrong" grave.
If it is missing, then they can't bury it. Right?

The title is OK. The corpse became missing because it was erroneously buried in another person's grave.

Normal procedure is for the family if any to view the departed at the ME's Ofiice for ID purposes and after they have been preped even if there is no formal viewing for friends and others.
This is some what unusal, but, it can happen that the family doesn't what to view the departed. Smoe folks freak out at the sight of a departed loved one.
The article doesn't say how long the person had been buried before the mix up was found.
Fault lies with the FH.

I can hear it all now.
"Did you hear about that guy that got into the wrong grave"
"How embarassing"! " I wouldn't be caught dead doing that myself".

The corpse was probably innocent of any wrong doing. You know how people are always looking to dig up some dirt on an innocent corpse.
Wrong place at the wrong time and therin "lies" the problem.

Mourn, then get along with your life.
The body is just dust.
Unless yer gettin rid of evidence, well then yeah ya want to hide 'em then.
