For those of you who are looking for a way to get access to the internet during field day, or other other situations where you don't normally have access to broadband give this a try.

I picked up a D-Link DIR-450 router. #This is a WIFI 802-11g router that accepts a Sprint or Verizon broadband card.

After upgrading the bios, I was able to plug a Sprint Sierra Wireless Aircard 595 in the box and get speeds faster than the DSL I have at home. #

I believe Linksys also has something similiar, I just haven't used one.

Just an option if you have a BB card and wish to create a portable WIFI hotspot.

Cheers

I can connect my sprint phone to my laptop and do essentially that.
Sprint has it going for speed.

Connecting your phone as a modem works great for one computer.

The D-Link solution allows multiple computers to share the Broadband connection and works quite well.

The setup I'm using is a Sprint Sierra Wireless 595 card. #To get it operational, all I had to do is to update the firmware on the DIR450 to accept the new card, then enter my Sprint e-mail address (assigned to the card) and password during the initial setup.

I've taken this setup to a few folks homes that were on dial-up so they could download some software/load some security patches faster, etc. #Worked like a champ.

Provides an entirely new level of flexibility. Also came in quite handy when our home got hit by lightning -- when the phone lines/dsl were down I still had access to the internet (and the radio, thanks to my portable --- as for my radios "Tango Uniform")
