View Full Version : What goes around.. comes around..
For those who have wondered whatever happened to NN6EE, you might wish to go peruse the ARRL website. Look under FCC Enforcement letters and read the first item listed.
Wonder what the response will be like? Those of us who have read/followed/been exposed to Jim's 'colorful' antics can make an educated guesstimate, I think. Still.. it should be interesting to read.
Main thing to note is that Riley is working the Amateur Radio Rules as a whole and not just the basic enforcement issues.
Go Riley!

Alterneter noise and power supply noise? Somewhat like swatting a fly with a shotgun.
Could it have anything to do with Jim's rather public opinion of Mr. Hollingsworth?
Seems to me there are much bigger fish to fry. This smacks of the personal. And that, if proven, would an abuse of authority issue. I don't think I have seen a letter from the FCC reguarding alternater noise published in recent history.
If the offending alternater or power supply are not causing the signal to be too wide and not just unpleasent to listen to, is it a violation? If it is then I think I'll complain to the FCC about virtualy every country music station in my area as they not only insult the ear but the intellegence as well.
Of course we all know there is no way a minor burocrat would ever over extend his/her scope to strike out at someone in an otherwise personal dispute.
FYI, I'm not saying this in defence of Jim. But more over in defence of any who may be subjected to otherwise undo scutiny.
Flagrent abusers of the rules and regulations are more than plentyful and the FCC should start at the top of the severity scale and work it's way down.

Yes, alternator whine comes into "good engineering and good amateur practice, (FCC Rules Part 97, Paragraph 97.101a)" along with AC hum, chirp, and so on.

I agree. Whats funny about this - is its not a hard issue to fix. There's rarely an excuse to have massive amounts of hum or alternator noise in a radio transmission. Still I hear it all the time. Sometimes alternator whine is so bad I can't understand what the guy is saying. I think that could affect someone's ability to handle communications properly - don't you?

I didn't add the last paragraph I had in mind in fairness to Jim. But.......I do supose in his case it could be "overlooked" (whine, hum etc.) as a source of anoyance. There are several here who could write a post on the subject of NN6EE that would make Glen jelous (in terms of word count).
In fairness to all who are anoied with him anyway, yes it could be intentional as I believe him capable of replacing condencers, filter caps etc. But an inforcment letter? A bit excessive, even for a nuisence like him.
What concerns me most is that it may just exaserbate the problem by provoking him into a real violation problem. A bit volitile, that one.
Oh well, if he does, he dose. (incert Shakespear quote here)
