I need help to replace the backup batteries in my Kenwood TM-741A. The schematic I have shows two batteries, one in the display unit and another in the control unit.
The owners manual and the service CD I just received do not have instructions for battery replacement.
Can someone help??

open it up , check the battery types.
the memory battery is likley a quarter size cr2032 with solder tabs.
batteriesamerica.com. price about 3 bucks.
Since they are cheap and last about 10 years, replace both that you find.
draw a picture of their location as its easy to forget and then put battery in backwards, which usually doesn't hurt anything, it just doesnt work.
don't ask me how i know that.
use a 35 watt pencil iron to solder.
You may have to use a file to rough up the tab surface on the new battery as its likely Cadmium plated and solder dont stick.
best test is to pre solder the tabs, then you know the solder sticks and just a quick heat job will melt the solder blob to the board.
