Good stuff! #I have traded with Radio Shack for well over thirty years, and I have noticed that they just don't have anything anymore. #I used to find all sorts of bits and pieces to make things with, but the component parts have been relegated to a drawer unit that takes up about six square feet in the store. #Furthermore, the drawers, though limited in scope to start, are seldom restocked or even organized after they have been pawed through by heaven knows whom.
The time for a re-name is well past; how about "Cell Phone Shack"?

Quote[/b] ] Maybe our customers are at the mall anyway and don't feel like driving to Best Buy? I suppose that's possible(from the article)
That pretty much says it for me.

To me, this is exactly the problem with Radio Shack.

It appears that "Cellphone Shack" has hired another "qualified" leader for "The Fort Worth Golden Parachute Club."
RadioShack: You have questions, we have Mr. Julian Day.

I've got two Radio Shacks in close walking distance. They always seem to have what I'm looking for...almost always some sort of component, or jumper, or connector. The two near me still have components. But those are small ticket items...how much profit is there on resistors, anyway? But I'm glad they're there. Where else am I gonna get that kind of part, over the counter, and conveniently?
Bless 'em. I first bought from Radio Shack in 1961...and I remember their big store on Commonwealth Ave. in Boston.

They don't know what they're about any more. They've lost their rudder. When you think of Radio Shack, you think of..........uhhhh.
I'm sorry. What were you saying?

too bad you young ones missed all the good ole days
Heath Kit and several other suppliers of components
with and kits plus their tube testers for customer use.
Lafayettte Electronics , Allied and Cramer and Olson
Electronics; plus many more. Back in the 1950s .
Hell, Radio Shack is a baby; born much later. Maybe an off shoot from ALLIED ? All large cities spawned independent "radio electronic" parts stores, Before the TELLIES arrived on the scene. Before the transistor or
semiconductors , selenium and copper oxide cells were around then . I was working in industrial electronics back then. Got hooked in transceivers in early 60s, some one gave me a "don't work" mobil [ before the PLL]. BOUGHT A BOOK, READ IT, REPAIRED , ALIGNED AND ADJUSTED IT. I fell in love ! Yep, it had those new fangled transistors, Many TINY LITTLE 3 LEGGED THINGS AND A COUPLE of TO-220 FINALS. That was a "thousand" radios back. I GAVE AWAY over 300 vac. tubes last year
to a radio buddy , I still have several new 300 / 500 amp "hockey pucks" --800piv.[with hardware] AT THIS TIME, I'M DOING SOME TOOL AND DIE , MAKING DIES TO PRESS parts for some beams I DESIGNED & am building. JUST STAYING BUSY, NOT BORED, retired
twice, BUT still do consulting / teaching trades to electrical journeymen . I'm only 81, too early for watching TV...............Got other irons in the fire also.
Yawl sta buzy , ye hear .

Would you like fries with your resistors?
