Man,
That was back in the days they were riding cow pastures
with tee shirts and cardboard football helments.
My sister used to talk about the races off Rozzell's Ferry Road in Charlotte back before Concord.
My dad always toted her on Saturday night and apparently they came home quite dirty from all the dirt trackin'....early '60s.
She still drives like a bat out of hell.
Cool!

I can't imagine what that poor guy went through back then.

My cousin raced in that era and said that as long as he had his hat on, no one noticed his race. He ate with him at several cafes without any trouble. His hair gave him away if he removed his hat.
Of course not all drivers treated him this way.
But back then if you wasn't from certain parts of the coutry, even certain counties of a state, you didn't get the little secrets that let you win.
I helped build a couple of Nascar cars while I as in college and it was understood not to talk about certain things on the cars.
"I just want my fair advantage" was and probably still is the rule.

QOUTE from Scott jr, "I live in Danville, Va., on Wendell Scott Drive in the Wendell Scott Community," he says, his voice gathering momentum. "But they ain't done nothin' for him. When you see Wendell Scott being promoted, it is for NASCAR to reap the benefits."

If NASCAR does something for Mr. Scott (which I think they should), will it be seen as NASCAR "Reaping the benefits" of his accomplishments?

Baseball and Nascar are my two favorite sports , because nobodies can still be discovered in the lower ranks of the sport .

I wish more people ( any color ) just built a car and showed up to race . Grassroots is where its at . Go watch a race sometime on the lower rungs of the Nascar ladder . The chilli dogs are better at the small local tracks anyway http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The real problem is professional auto racing is so expensive these days that, unless a driver is independently wealthy, he hasn't a chance by himself to build a car (or even buy one) and compete.

Beginning drivers would be better off starting out at the local tracks, or if he/she is intent on getting into a racing series, that driver could start out in ASA or USAR.
