Just wondering how many Hams have tried this mod on their rigs and what the results were. #I have heard that it makes the radio run hotter than it already does. #Does it negatively affect the power out on any given band? And is 60 meters really worth the risk if any. #Does it also open all bands?

# # # # # # # # Just curious...KB7DTI Jim

You probably need to go to the Icom forum on Yahoo.com for starters. I have a MkIIg and there are NO mods to the radio .. I simply refuse. Yes, doing the 60M mod does open up the radio. Since the radio does not have BPF's (Band Pass Filters) as do the Pro series it does not care where the radio is tuned (no buiilt in tuner).

That said, it is still an Amateur Radio, useable and legal ONLY on the amateur frequencies .. aka not to talk to police or airplanes or cb'ers.

I do think you make the band edge beeps go away when this mod is done, since it is no longer amateur exclusive use. Nothing regarding power should change within the amateur spectrum. Keeping in mind 60M you cannot run 100W anyway. Some like 60M some don't. I have listened with my Pro II, 7000 and IIg and ... no use for 60M. My take.
