View Full Version : ode to cw
BURY MY J-38 RIGHT NEXT TO ME
IN THE MIDDLE OF FEBRUARY 2007 THEY SAID
REJOICE ALL HAMS! CW IS DEAD
A TERRIBLE SHUDDER WENT THROUGH MY BONES
NO MORE LISTENING IN OLD HEADPHONES
FOR FARAWAY CHATTER OF VARIOUS TONES.
THE TERRIBLE SWEAT AT GOVERNMENT TABLES
AS WE GATHERED TO WRITE DOWN SOUNDS COMING FROM CABLES.
THIRTEEN WORDS A MINUTE WAS TERRIBLLY FAST
WHEN NOVICES GATHERED; LIKE THAT DAY WAS THEIR LAST.
NO MORE CODE THEY PROCLAIM.
IF THE WORD DOESN’T GET THROUGH NOW,
THE COMPUTER IS TO BLAME!
I STILL SHUDDER AND AM FILLED WITH FRIGHT
BUT I WILL SEND CODE
NEXT STRAIGHT KEY NIGHT.
PERHAPS WHEN WE HEAR THE FIRST CALL FROM SPACE
THOSE LITTLE GREEN MEN WILL BE SENDING CW
AT A VERY FAST PACE.
DO YOU SUPPOSE I CAN ENTER HEAVEN’S GATE
CARRYING MY TRUSTY J-38?

There once was a whiney no coder
Who pined for the code to be over
When the day finally came
He whined just the same
And emitted the same nasty odor.

A slap to the left
A slap to the right
wonderful machines that
go "ditdah" in the night
Signals heard from far away places
CWs the mode that always amazes
It isn't a matter
of what mode is better
CW gets more fun
with each copied letter
Young op and oldest pro
fast op, or very slow
slap that key, there is no shame!
slap it for the love of the game
Slapping code will never die
as long as brass pounding fingers fly.

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Feds the code they'll keep.
But if it should go before I do, I know the code can still make it through.
Mary had a little key, its contacts clean as they could be.
And every where that Mary went, you could hear sweet #CW being sent.
The itsy bitsy NCT crawled up the operators neck, trying to get a clue of the code being sent.
He listened and listened and strained his brain on end....
But the code eluded him,
so he used his Mic to send.
(clearly I am no poet), oh well. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Whether by paddle, bug or straight key,
I find copying Morse quite easy.
It helps to train,
and spur my brain,
but makes the no-coders feel Queasy

While Violets are Blue,
and Roses are Red...
This old Morse Lover's still Scratchin' His Head
As he thoroughly enjoys this Glorious Thread...
The BEST ONE SEEN EVER... Here on Q R ZED!!!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

A fine thread indeed! I'm no poet, so I won't try!

There once was a YL named Fran,
who fell in love with a no code man,
and it drove her so crazy
that he was so lazy
that she hit him in the head with a pan.
Now this ain't the end of the tale
Cause poor Fran did her time in a jail
she'd rather do the time
than put up with the whine
from a poor excuse for a male.
So if you want to enjoy the bands
Dont be lazy like that husband of Fran's
learn the old Morse Code
as your primary mode
and get on with your Amateur plans.
Now I know some people will sass
at the frankness of this little class
but dimish the role
of your gaping pie hole
and you won't be a pain in the a$$.
There once was a ham from nantucket
when the code dropped he said, "aw f.... it"

Hey guys.. On some thread sI read were the No-coders won't drop the fact that they won.. And here I see the Coders not dropping it either.. No wonder hate and discontent are rampent.... Each side keeps sticking this in the other as*es.. Preperation H time boys.. Maybe we should stick all you (Coders and No Coders) in a African Prison... And maybe just maybe we could have a meaningful thread here in QRZ again.. that no longer beats the dead horse ....

I agree jerry - This was started as an OM who was reflecting on
the good old days. Just plain fun way to vent our feelings. New
hams are always welcome. This is a hobby open to all. I really
liked the early responses. Let's hear some more poetry - but not
at other's expense. 73 ES BCNU! glenn NN8G:)

I realize this was a troll to start with but....
My personal favorite...
Is anyone else hearing the same old song?
To the tune of "If I Only Had.." from the Wizard of OZ.
I am sick of just 2 meters
and yackin' on repeaters
From mobile and my home.
It's the upgrade I been needin'
But that Element One's impedin.'
If it wasn't for the code!
I could talk with every nation
On H F allocations
Using just voice mode.
I could be a big DX-er,
be An Extra, not a Tech-er
If it wasn't for the code!
Imagine me!
Extra code-free!
I'm at a microphone:
"CQ CQ To-ky-o"
I'd be a "HAM!"
HOT DAMN!
I'm no better and no badder
And it really shouldn't matter,
My preference for which mode.
But I could be more than local,
and not just a licensed yokel.
If it wasn't for the code.
[Bridge interlude. #Of course, for every song, there's a dance. Choreography by NCI, et ilk.]
I could wile away long hours
Discussin' rigs and towers
With stations antipode.
And I swear there'd #be no jammin'
But my log would fill with hammin'
If it wasn't for the code
