The following is a personal frustration of mine and may not be of any importance to you personally. In other words, you may agree or disagree, I'm OK with that!

Its MY opinion that if one Amateur wants to "sell" a piece of equipment to another Amateur, s/he should post that item on the forums as being "FOR SALE". If it doesn't sell (usually because cheap hams want everything for cheap UNLESS they are the one selling it), THEN put it up on ebay "FOR AUCTION".

Placing an item on the forums with the appearance of it being "for sale", when in reality the item is "for auction" is misleading and at times, frustrating!

Let's say an ICOM 746PRO is posted. I've wanted one of these for a long time and decide I want to buy it. Only, when I get to the end of the post, I see that I have to go to ebay to fight it out with every tom, dick and harry on ebay. I also have to wait until said auction ends to find out if I'm the winner.

If an item is for "AUCTION", then it is clearly not for "SALE". How would you like tuning into your favorite swap net and everyone one with items to potentially sell, tell you to go to ebay and look up item number xxxxx? That net would die in a heart beat.

I believe there is a place to list "FOR AUCTION" items. I believe they should have their own "FOR AUCTION" forum, separate from the "FOR SALE" forum.

QRZ.COM says this...
Quote[/b] ]If you are selling on eBay, POST that it is an eBay auction item, put a full description of the item just as if you were selling it on QRZ. Any ads with just a link to an eBay page or "visit my eBay site" will be deleted.

Its clear that QRZ allows "FOR AUCTION" items, but also recognizes the potential for abuse.

I would like to suggest that QRZ create a forum for "FOR AUCTION" items. If it is a success, then those posting their items "for auction" will be happy. If the "FOR AUCTION" forum is a flop, then its because people don't want to go to QRZ to look up "FOR AUCTION" items! Besides, they can go directly to ebay for that!

If you have an item for sale, then sell it here. If you have an item for "auction", then please don't list it as being for sale...because its NOT!

Believe me, I fully understand the seller wanting to get as much exposure and $$$ for their item as possible! But the "FOR SALE" forum is not the appropriate place for that.

This is just MY opinon and I'm passionate enough about tit to post this message.

What? Who are you sleeping with that you need to be woken up based on my buying habits? Never mind, don't answer that question! I'm sure that reply would be as useless as your original one.

Same thing I have said for a couple of years. Said it in response to a couple of E-Bay postings in the For Sale section. If it is on E-Bay, then it is not For Sale. It is up for Auction.

And while we are on the subject, What part of Do Not put the words FOR SALE in the header of a post do some people not understand. Are they too lazy to read the rules, or are they just that ignorant? Its in big letters right there on the forum, DO NOT USE THE WORDS FOR SALE. Everything posted in the For Sale forum is For Sale (Well except for E-Bay Auctions).

Well technically, QRZ shouldn't even allow these. I believe they are illegal under eBay's TOS....

Yeah and we all care so much about that too. Quick, someone start a thread about it.

Can you back that up with a link to the ebay TOS that forbids it?

Mostly because I asked. I do a bit of selling on eBay now and again and I was curious. If you wish to make comments of a political nature, please confine them to the ragchew forum.

I think their TOS prohibits SPAMMING, ie, posting them everywhere. But it wouldn't be spamming to post a for sale (or for auction, whatever) on a related site.

If you searched the QRZ database, obtained every email address, and sent advertisements for it THAT way, then yeah, TOS violation.

As for the debate at hand, I could care less either way. After seeing a friend of mine get burned on a online trade not involving ebay, and seeing my mother in law get burned by someone on ebay, I have basically given up on both. If I need something really bad, "as new" I'll go buy it from HRO. Then if the finals fry, I can blame the manufacturer, or myself.

Plus I get the full warranty on anything I buy, and, from what I've seen, I might lose the 10% discount.....but I gain the fact the item is new http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Except for buying new stuff from reputable retailers, I'm done with the internet trading game. Too many shysters out there just looking to make a buck. Too many "sit at home on your hands and make a mint" people nowadays.

So do whatever you want with that particular forum. Though I'm sure many are honest, I won't ever horsetrade again, unless I can test the item myself and touch it before laying out funds. Sorry, thats just my opinion now.

I believe NIG is right.. let me confirm.. but I was always told linking into an auction in a public forum other than ebays own site was a no no. Lemme check. I'll edit if I find anything.

One thing which ought to be noted is that there are e-bay retailers who do indeed place items FOR SALE at a specific price, then there are what e-bay calls "dutch autions", which are just items for sale at a given price.

Then there are those who place a "Buy it NOW" button on their Auction. If a person is willing to pay the asking price it's for swale, if not, it's up for auction.

I haven't ever bought Amateur gear on e-bay, I do from time-to-time see what certain pieces of gear sell for out of general interest (or I have one stored away and may wish to place it for sale).

Personally, I like to give a piece of gear the once over and take it out for a spin before I fork over my hard-earned lucre. e-bay just doesn't lend itself to such things. I'll be content just buying books from e-bayers who have a high satisfaction rating...and amateur rigs at hamfests and dealers.

Hey it for sale to the highest bidder, if you don't want to bid then don't use ebay, simple as that.

I would like that 746Pro also but the bidding is higher then what I want to pay.

I agree with the original post. #If someone wants to sell or auction something on E-Bay, he/she should limit the "sales pitch" to that site.

If they want to list it as a "sale or trade" item here on QRZ.COM , then they should give QRZ.COM exclusive rights to the listing. #And QRZ should get credit if a successful transaction is made. #( Does Fred charge individuals for advertising in the "for sale or trade" section of the forum? #I honestly don't know. )

I just got a great deal on an underground pet fence from Ebay, cheaper than any of the local do it yourself stores, brand new and shipped to me in 1 day, dont know how it got here that fast but I was happy
