For some of us with line noise, try using your am portable radio to hunt around the house. I found that my little tiny ion air filter which makes no noise itself, was my big noise producer, especially on 75 mtrs. I've been blaming the noise on conditions and time of day, but now am relieved to have found the culprit. Good luck.

YOT this has been discussed many times on the QRZ forums as well as many of the ARRL Handbooks for many years. A battery powered AM receiver indeed can help locate sources of interference.

It should come as no surprise that your ION machine was causing interference. There are some quite high voltages in those things. Oner of the major makers of the Clean Air machines (Ionic Breeze) is really bad. Strangely enough the CEO is a ham ... apparently not active however, otherwise he would have noticed it.

Those little portable radios certainly are handy. I use them to check monitors and just installed cable internet and checked out the cable modem with one. It came up clean.

I found an odd one last night in my house. I have a baby monitor (Angelcare) and we have buzzing (sounded like 60Hz) in certain parts of the house, especially our bedroom.

Found that if I plug something in to a certain outlet box in the bathroom (right beside the bedroom), the buzzing stops. I can plug anything in to either outlet in the box and it stops. All I can figure is that it's the terminal end of the circuit...

Of course, it could be that the house has more severe electrical problems...
