View Full Version : Looking for very simple logging software
Can anyone recommend a very basic logging program so that I can have future reference to past contacts. Something simple that tracks nothing more than a qsl card info.
Thanx,
Terry

If you subscribe to QRZ, it will automatically put the contact info into your database. Both are well worth it.

See! You can turn almost any thread into a code thread! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I vote for AC log as well. You have to pay for that though. Ham Radio Delux has a logging progam built in that is nice too. It pulls info from QRZ if you're a subscriber or not though...at least it did 2 years ago when I tried it out. It also interfaces with eQSL and LoTW.

I've been using Win-eqf on this end, up until I finished my Access database...
If you REALLY want a BASIC logging option, with the ability to build on it in the future, I personally suggest learning Microsoft Access. The nice thing about this is that you can add and implement any feature you want for logging contacts, even so far as to have the darned thing print QSL cards for you with the contact's info on it!
My database has a few different tables in it, one for UHF / VHF contact info, one for repeater lists and frequencies, and yet another that I am currently building for logging HF contacts. The one thing that I don't have yet is a current copy of Buckmaster to tie into. But then again, I could probably build an external search into it that will go out to QRZ or another database and get the info.
Really basic? Microsoft Excel. But I'd think Microsoft Access, although a bit harder to learn, might be better.

I did my log in Access. If I hear a station, it takes only seconds to do a 'find' to see if I have worked him before. #I'm unhappy however in that when I up graded to Office 2003 on the new computer, it does not contain Access, where Office 97 had it. #I now keep the old computer as a ham shack #toy until it dies. You can also build a logging program with Microsoft Works data base but it is no where as good as Access.
Winlog 32. Free and a good program.

I made my own. Not that I believe in the NIH (Not Invented Here) but simply because I did not know there were zillions of logging program out in the cyberspace.
It handles normal logging and contest logging and has a built in PSK31 and RTTY generator.
All data is stored in a SQL server database and I do have a version for MS Access which I run when there are two simultaneous contests I like to work.

You went and got MS Office 2003 Student / Teacher, huh?
I have 2003 Professional, has Access included. You can also get the MS Access add-on for Office 2003 separately, if you need to...

I use N3FJP's log program AClog, The thing I like is that when you enter the call and tab to the next field it brings up a list of prevous contacts with that station.
also it will upload top LOTW and E-QSL. the registration is less than 20 bucks so its almost free. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I can not believe that so many individuals took the time to leave such excellent responses to my question. Now I remember why I truly enjoy radio and my fellow hams so much......
Thank You,
