I have just been informed by Jim Haynie, President of the ARRL, who has been a contibutor to these forums, that a high level FCC official is considering entering into discussions on QRZ.com. If this person does decide to become an active participant, I promised that I would handle things as I have done with Jim's postings: Basically, anything is open for discussion. However, the posts must be made in an adult manner. No getting personal. No flames. No profanity. I will come down hard on anyone who doesn't follow the rules including deletion of posts, editing of posts if necessary, etc.

If the particular individual does participate, this will be a real "scoop" for QRZ.com!

I welcome this move. to have access to a high level FCC official on this forum board is a real coup. good job guys. now if only this high official from the government can endure the long and extremely boring and predictable political manifestoes he will have to wad through we might get some real insight and answers to our many questions. I`ll be looking forward to his first comments.

If this person "comes aboard", I have asked Fred Lloyd (owner of QRZ.com) to establish a separate forum that will be devoted to FCC items. I haven't heard back from Fred about this, so I don't know if the discussions will take place in this forum or in a new one. Or, for that matter, in any of the forums that the individual might want to post on.

Again, things are not absolutely certain, but they definitely look very good.

Congratulations Glen and Fred,
I look forward to the oncomming posts, this could be a means of clearing up a lot of myths and rumors that have been circling like a flock of buzzards. I just hope the proverbial termite does not crawl out of the woodwork and ruin it for all the others.
Well Done, keep up the good work,

Heck, Glen, I ain't pickey. #I'll talk to dang near anyone. #Even a Fed!

As too treating him any differently than I treat anyone else.....no way. #If I agree with him, I'll say so. #If I don't, I'll say so too.

BTW, is he a Ham or just another anonymous? #For all we know Radio Merc. might work for the FCC! Heh, heh.

For CPC:

Jim Haynie has "warned" him as what to expect. All that I "ask" is that any postings be kept clear of profanity, personal attacks, and flames. As long as things go in an "adult" manner (and I don't mean "adult" as in the Internet "adult sites" manner), then I think that the individual should be "fair game". If he (and therefore I have already eliminated half of the possibilities!) does come on board, I think that it will be very good for amateur radio as a whole, and not just a "scoop" for QRZ.com.

Frankly, I don't know if he does have an amateur license. I'll check the database and see.

mmmm, it`s not a women because you said " him". mmmm, if you have to look to see if he has a license, that would eliminate railey hollingsworth! mmmm, could it be the big man himself, michael k. powell? naw, no-way. mmmm, but maybe...?????

Hopefully this new member will not be bored to tears with the ubiquitous non sequitur Shakespeare quotes in every thread. #I can not wait for the peasants to fall all over their feet to worship this "high-ranking" government official as royalty. #It is conduct unbefitting a sovereign citizenry but not unexpected from some of the plebes.

If the person does come "onboard", I hope that he will be treated with respect and nothing more. In fact, every person who already posts on QRZ.com deserves respect so long as they play by the rules. That is something which several present users need to take time to reflect upon. Differences of opinion are fine so long as things don't start getting personal or profane.

It sounds like a step in the right direction, and I would gladly welcome it. The fact that this "official" would want to join this forum conveys, to me at least, an indication of the FCC's dedication and interest in amateur radio, and their willingness to "hopefully" use the feedback they will most certainly receive.

I'm all for it. It would be a good move on their part http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

When a new forum is established for FCC questions, etc., we might restrict posting to only those who use a valid amateur call sign as their i.d. (and that call sign will be verified!) and give a valid E-Mail address (preferably one from your ISP). #If a person is not licensed, then they will have to use their real name as their i.d. and also provide a valid E-Mail address and a method of verifying that they are really who they say they are. However, that has not been definitely decided upon. Hopefully, everyone will "behave" themselves and we can basically have an "open" forum like this one.

I am also going to be less tolerant of the "snide" remarks, etc., that "crop up" elsewhere within this forum, and others as well. #The users of QRZ.com are going to have an opportunity that does not exist anywhere else on the Internet (at least that I know of). #Therefore, I must insist that everyone be on his/her best behavior. #That does not mean that "tough" questions cannot be asked and that dissenting opinions can't be given. #Frankly, I plan on asking about a couple of things that are "dear to my heart", that may put this individual "on the spot". #But, there is the "right way" and the "wrong way" to ask questions, make comments, etc. #I think that everyone knows the "right way". #Please treat everyone with respect even if you disagree with their position on the subject. #You know how to do this!

I will not tolerate any "educated donkey" remarks in this new forum (even though even I occasionally make them on this forum, as well as those remarks by numerous others who post "cute" sayings). #I will delete posts that are profane, beligerent (not disagree, you know what I mean), personal attacks, etc. #The person who made that post will be warned. #If they persist on keep making that type of post, they will be banned. #Please, no "yawns", no "quotations by Shakespeare", etc. #Let us make a good impression, not by being "polite" to be "polite", but by asking pertinent questions, making pertinent comments, and entering into viable discussions, no matter which side of the subject that you are on.

The "new member" is K4ZDH, W. Riley Hollingsworth. He is having trouble getting his office computer to work with the software of this site. However, he has started forwarding messages through Jim Haynie, W5JBP, the President of the ARRL. You can find the first one under the "Where's the Beef" thread on the news forum.

We (QRZ.com) are trying to find a way to get Riley's computer compatible with our software.

I don't want to be the first to be negative about this, but I find it hard to believe that the FCC, with all its resources, can't get Netscape or Explorer running.

What will this "new forum" be called/titled?

For GOF: We haven't decided exactly. Possibly something like Regulatory, or FCC, or something similar. I am open to suggestions (and I don't mean any "educated donkey" types) and will pass the good ones onto Fred.

For NBH: I don't know what software the FCC uses in their computers. However, several people are working on the problem.

Since minds outside of the GOV. are working on the problem I'm confident the problem will be solved in short time. However the thought comes to mind would it not be IRONIC if the GOV. had to convert to Microsoft Operating Systems to interface the rest of the world, considering #the Judicial relationship the GOV. has had with MS in the past......

GREAT! Both for the new forum with FCC, But also to
require REAL callsigns or real names to be able to post!
ABOUT TIME! #That should be required on all posts on
all forums. #Let those that want to stay in the shadows
and are too afraid to use real names, Stay in the shadows and be unable to post!!!! # #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have no idea as to what is happening with the computers at the FCC in Gettysburg! Maybe they are running TRSDOS or something similar from the mid-1970s!

I have not heard anything from either Hollingworth or Haynie in about a week.
