Google has announced a major innovative breakthrough that will result in the availability of wireless broadband internet services to most Americans. The new service is called Google TiSP. It will be advertiser supported and offered free to those who already have the proper facilities installed.

Those of us in rural areas will not be able to use the service because of lack of connectivity to centralized systems but it does offer the possibility of a
new way to install a local network. Portability is limited at this time but Google engineers are working on that issue.

TiSP may be the final nail in BPL's coffin and the savior of amateur radio. BPL may find itself in the bit bucket.

The new wireless broadband service is described at http://www.google.com/tisp/

This is simply broadband over sewer pipe. #The modem is placed in the toilet and uses the sewer pipe as a type of a waveguide.

Areas with septic tanks cannot get the service for obvious connectivity reasons.

Lets hope BPL gets the final boot.

They are trying this same concept with gas lines.

I just wonder how bad a "high fiber floater" will detune the waveguide.

Um, this was an April Fools Joke, y'all.

It IS funny, however, to read some of the perpetuating posts here, like the whole "sewer-pipe wave guide" thing. Yah, right.

Really? What's the impedance of a 4" sewer pipe? When empty? When full?

What kind of skywave radiation will I get from my drain field? I don't want to just heat the clouds. Should we call this "S-layer" propagation?

(They had me going until I saw the diagram.)

You're quite welcome, Major! (LOL)

I must admit, my first reaction when firing up the web browser (it loads Google as the default) and clicking on the Tisp link was "HUH? You gotta be sh^&*ng me! (no pun intended). Then the diagram and the mention of the "professional install option", how a team of nanobots would come through the sewer and into the comode, and kindly take the fiber optic cable to the central node for you, by the time I finished reading all the pages, I was laughing my fool head off...

Hey, leave me alone, I hadn't had my coffee yet when I posted that....(LOL)

At any rate, I don't know how the wife would take to having her potpourri and trinkets replaced by a router with a fiber optic cable snaking down into the comode....
