I got interested when i was 6, I always wanted to talk to people via the ether.
I started with CB when I was 8, I also worked at a public radio station. I had to sell my CB rig when i was 10, because we moved to a new house and my parents didn't want an antenna on the roof.

I stayed working at the public radio station.
1.5 year ago i started at Eindhoven University and visited the HAM club (ESRAC, Eindhoven Student Radio Amateur Club) PI4TUE. I fell in love with the hobby. 6 months later i took the exam and i became a HAM.

Now i like building QRP rigs, i'm planning to build 2 QRPP(<10mW) beacons this summer, one on 30m and one on 10m.

definitely dx. the idea of being able to talk here and be heard tens of thousands of miles away with no intervening wires/switches/... was just spectacular.

I got a bad RF burn once...

Doesn't sound bad but with 100 PEP, my hand on some metal, let's just say it woke me up and then some.

This is what is sounded like:

CQ CQ CQ de KC0V ow!

that is what i was wondering . are RF burns better or worse than electrical shocks? ( BTW i am talking 100 watts of RF and 115 AC for electrical shocks)

kc0v ow does sound close enough to kc0vvu I bet thye could hardly tell the difference...except maybe in the amplitude and pitch of voice...this thread reminds me of my father (electrical engineer) doing some electrical work in the house and getting the 110v ac shock and then saying that maybe he ought to switch off the breaker to that room...I don't know about the RF burns yet akshay but I've heard they are much worse then AC

I started with antique radios and it just came from there . not one event made me want to be a ham . mainly just found it on a web search and looking at the videos on Youtube .

Ha, that's nothing! A few years ago, when I was still on CB, I had one in the car with a 400w amp inline. One day I was standing behind the car and noticed the mag-mount antenna was a little off center. I started to move it and just as I grabbed it my buddy keyed it up. It gave me a bad burn on the palm of my hand.

Another time I was talking on 2m using an indoor mag-mount on a pie plate(my normal antenna was blown down in a storm.). As I was talking, I went to grab some thing and my hand touched to antenna. Good thing I was only using about 25w that time. All it left was a blister.

Just two more and I will stop

A few years ago, when I was still in CB, I was working on an old sweep tube amp with my elmer. I went to unplug the HIGH VOLTAGE supply from the amp and got hit with god knows how much voltage. All I now is that when I came to, my elmer was yelling at me trying to wake me up. Almost gave that 75 year old a heart attack!

Alright my last one,I promise

One day I was working in my shop and reached behind some equipment to disconnect a coax cable. When I did my stomach brushed against the terminals on my 35amp 13.8volt power supply. Not much but, it did leave a cool scar.(CHICKS DIG THE SCARS). http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Well that's all that I can remember.

P.s.
I'm only 17. At this rate I should be dead by 30. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
