Hello.
This has been brewing for well over a month now.
Now that the King of Saudi Arabia makes a public statement that is carried by the Houson paper it is big news?

A little posturing for the locals would seem very wise considering the likelyhood of the U.S. pulling out of Iraq prematurely .

As much far-left bias as the Houston Chronic(al) spews forth on daily basis, how can ANYONE take anything they report that serious? The only reason why Jerry cited this story is because of their far-left news slant.
Suggestion: Go back to sleep and don't worry about this. It's probably The Chronic(al's) method of trying to take a situation and blow it out of porportion (like they usually do) to get more off-the-chart-far-left types to read their bird cage liner to increase their bottom line.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) -- King Abdullah's harsh -- and unexpected -- attack on the U.S. military presence in Iraq could be a Saudi attempt to signal to Washington its anger over the situation in Iraq and build credibility among fellow Arabs.
The White House, in a rare public retort Thursday, rejected the king's characterization of U.S. troops in Iraq as an "illegitimate foreign occupation," saying the United States was not in Iraq illegally.
"The United States and Saudi Arabia have a close and cooperative relationship on a wide range of issues," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. "And when it comes to the coalition forces being in Iraq, we are there under the U.N. Security Council resolutions and at the invitation of the Iraqi people."
"We disagree with them," Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns told senators. "We were a little surprised to see those remarks."

Greg, you're probably a nice guy, but you have to be the most uninformed individual I've ever encountered.
Do you really believe what you type, or are you just being facetious?

I think the Saudi ruler is doing this to save face with his people. I am sure the Saudi people want us out so there is pressure on the Royal Family. This way he can say "I told them they should leave".

On this we can agree.
But, when driving on thin ice, you should never apply the breaks to hastily, if at all.

What would the Republicans do differently that makes this situation different? I'm just curious, because you spout things like this and really don't provide any basis for how you reached that conclusion.
I'm curious, because for six years the Republicans HAD control and all I am seeing is the US on the fast path to $4 per gallon gasoline. Well, that and the close and personal allies of the Republicans making a whole lot of money off oil.
So, how 'bout it. Care to enlighten me how the Republicans would make this situation any better?

Hello.
The Saudi ruler is in big trouble with the people.
Bush said that he would be out in 2 years.
That was run on Saudi TV, and unlike the American people, the Saudi people expect this to be true.
Finally, the King now has no choice but to address Bush.

Thanks for the insight OM. Personally, I am saddened and frustrated that the US is STILL IN IRAQ.
