KL7AJ is a wonderfull ham and a wonderfull person, few weeks ago I posted in the wanted forum a Inexpensive or Free HF rig, I know that it was a long shot and I knew I was not going to a FT-1000DX nor was that what I was looking for. I just Wanted to get a HF station in my home shack, but with recent surgery, my $$ was low budget, I am also a Iraq war veterian and have some issue due to that. Anyways long story short he packed up a nice Ten-Tec Argonaut 509 with a 5 amp power supply and a nice ant, plus a adapter to make my own ant useing RG-8 Coax. In addition he also offered anytime I needed help with the rig to just email him or give him a call. Well I set it up today when it got here, oh yea he also sent it 2nd Day Air from Alaska to Georgia Via FedEx, anyways when it got here I setup the Radio, no manual around I kinda goofed but did not damage the rig, I emailed him and he got me straight, I also yahoo searched and found a Manual in PDF form and printed it out. I have not made a contact yet, but I was able to hear stations from all over the US and a few from across the pond and south america, but the ant is only a around 15-20 feet off the ground and I have not yet mastered the Clips on it yet. But I will, and I will make contacts, lots of them. Anyways, I wanted to let every other ham out there know there is still true Elmer's out there. He is a True Ham is will be consider a friend(family) member in my house. Than you again Eric, I will cherish the Ten-Tec and No matter what it will always be in my shack and get attention and Use

Wow that's awesome! Ten-Tec makes great radios. Granted the argonaut is an older radio and doesn't have DSP or any of the other newer features, it's a good solid radio.
That's really good news to read about what KL7AJ did for you. And I believe you found the right place to post your message of praise too. I can remember my elmer, Jack KG5GP, he gave me a SWAN 500CX and I used that rig to make hundreds of 10meter phone and cw contacts back in the 80's and 90's. It's great to know that there are hams out there that still do this. Maybe one day once you've acquired more rigs you'll be able to do the same for someone just starting out.
Good luck getting on the air and hope to work you and your ten-tec some day.
