SSTV INFORMATION

WB1EHD

The Western Mass Amateur Radio Slow Scan Television Net meets on Thursdays at 20:00 Hours EST on 145.520 MHz FM simplex. For more net info check out our website at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WesternMassAmateurRadio

Software used commonly is MMSSTV which is freeware and downloadable from: http://mmhamsoft.amateur-radio.ca/mmsstv/new-mmsstv.htm

To get started install the MMSSTV software and use the Windows sound card controls to take
off the mutes and set the 'Line In' level of your sound card.

Use a patch cord with 1/8" phone plugs mono available at Radio Shack to connect the 'speaker
out' or 'phones' jack of the radio to the 'Line In' jack of the sound card. The Radio Shack part number is 42-2420A.

You are now ready to receive SSTV pix after setting up the MMSSTV software, which is quite easy. The defaults work very well. Just make sure that the 'Auto slant adjustment' item right clicked from the RX window is turned on.

To transmit SSTV you will need an interface to key and send the audio signals from the sound card to the microphone input of your rig. A device from West Mountain Radio known as a RigBlaster does the job quite nicely. Also, MFJ and others make interfaces now as well.

In this area (Western Massachusetts) 145.520 MHz FM is the frequency and mode for 2-meter simplex SSTV.

Other SSTV frequencies comely used are:(MHz) 3.845, 7.228, 14.227, 14.233, 14.236, 21.340, 28.680, 145.500. [Source: ARRL Handbook 2000 and local information.]

I highly recommend that you read the web page located at:
