I recently found a great product in KC2BHO's line of SMA-To-BND adapters. #Previous to finding these units I had been using a combination of an SMA-PL259 plugged into an SO239 to Male BNC adapter which was then plugged into a Female-Female BNC adapter. #Needless to say this made for a long and heavy device which put uneccassary strain on the SMA antenna connector of my Alinco DJS40, 70cm HT. #

Stephen Gulyas makes a line of adapters for a growing selection of HT's. #With a nod to WA3HRL, his webpage has info on these products. #Info on Stephen's Adapters (http://www.wa3hrl.com/smabnc/) #

At $11.95 + $1.50 for s/h, this is a good buy. #On the HT, the rubber outer cover of the adapter seats firmly on the radio and provides of a very sturdy connection.

I consider this a good investment for any HT user with an SMA antenna connector.

Well, if anyone is in the Bellingham, WA area there's a little place called "Wiztronics" that sells these for $9.95 (about) USD (or approx. $500 CAD http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif)

They've got great service and great people, and no, they're not paying me! Just one happy buyer.

I swap a 1/4 wave with the cable to a base antenna at least twice a day on my vx150... I'll be very happy when the adaptor is worn out and I have an almost new connector on the radio still.

Hi All,
I have one of Stephen's adapters on my Alinco HT. The quality
and sturdyness are un-paralleled. Good Job Stephen.

Put me on the list of satisfied users of KC2BHO's SMA to BNC adapter. Sure makes the telescoping whip on my VX-5R stay rock-steady. Great product, excellent service from Steve too.

The going price at hamfests in the DC area for the SMA to BNC adapter has now gotten down to about $3.00 each (June 2003).

Steve's adapter with the big rubber bushing is still the best, in my opinion, since it keeps the SMA connection from wiggling around and possibly doing damage inside the radio where the solder tab is connected to the board.

Don't use those SMA connections too often. #I read somewhere that the SMA connector has a limited life span, something like 500 on/off cycles.
