Nobody Knows because:

Light bulbs are too low tech to for them bother.;

Light bulbs don't QSL;

Light bulbs don't count for WAZ, WAS, DXCC, etc;

Most Advanced or Extra classes are too old and out of shape to climb a ladder.

Proud of WHAT?
Proud that you didn't want to make an effort get a license under the rules required, hoping the rules would be relaxed?
PROUD that it was more important to wait until those requirements were relaxed, than to actually get your license?

That you were so dedicated and interested in Amateur Radio that you waited to get a license when the code was no longer required? (IF that is the case?)

PROUD that you didn't make the effort many of us had to put forth to attain our licenses?

Proud that you waited for the rules to be relaxed, rather than get the license you wanted, or thought you deserved, except fot that measly 5 WPM Morse Element 1 requirement?

PROUD that you passed Tech, General, or Extra exams? OK, that is worthy of congratulation. It IS an achievement, as was achievement of Advanced, and Novice in years gone by. But for all that, a 5 WPM exam previously required should NOT have stopped you, or anyone, from getting their license.

Sorry. In your own terms, most Advanced and Extra Amateurs will have the lights changed AND replaced with more efficient bulbs (where appropriate) before you even get a clue that the light's even out.
Yeah. Most Advanced and Extra's will have the light replaced before you even know about it.... But YOU won't have a clue. Because... Oh yeah. You won't know how to replace a light bulb . You're not qualified. It requires an Advanced or Extra license.

BTW, there's NO pride in "no code." (Nor should there be any shame; the FCC sets the rules.) Whatever your class license. THAT is what is in the FCC database, and what is printed on your paper licese. Unless, of course
you wish to make that distinction yourself, and for some reason want to emphasize the fact. But I doubt it will get you any consideration here, or anywhere else as a "person with impaired abilities."

Hmmm...the last light bulb I changed was at the top of a 300' tower, the guy at the bottom of the tower held an Amateur Extra, I hold an Amateur Advanced license, and teh bulbs were 600 watt aircraft obstruction beacon lamps and 125 watt aircraft obstruction lamps.

I don't need to do that any longer. The poor backward Amateur Extra and Amateur Advanced replaced the incandescent lamps with LED markers and Beacons.

So..I guess the answer is Two...but they only need to do it Once

Takes only one Advanced or Extra. They just change the bulb. No argument about who blew out the bulb, whether young people are interested in light, whether the light is keeping out people from Amateur Radio, whether the light serves regulatory purpose, whether the fixture is outdated. They know we need light to see and just change the $%^& bulb.

I am proud that:

I passed the Technician's test on the first try;

I tried seven or eight times to learn the code;

I had enough of common sense to recognize my lack of ability and move on;

I am the best radio operator that I can be within the limitations of my equipment, talents and interests;

I can change light bulbs. do plumbing, carpentry and service "hollow-" and solid-state gear within the limitations of my test equipment and manual dexterity;

I have an advanced degree in finance and my own financial consulting/services practice;

I recognize amateur radio / electronics as a hobby and not a way of life;

That I have the sense to recognize my limitations and to do the best within those limitations.

BTW: I AM NOT CLAIMING ANY DISABILITY!

You can:

Drive a car without making it to Indy or Elkhart Lake;

Sing without making it to the Met or La Scala;

Fly without piloting a 747 or F/A-18;

Engage in sports without being a pro, "all star", or having an 8-figure income.

Let's face it, we all have different talents and abilities. If we didn't, we'd all be "machines".

2,312.

800 who argue that the change is needed,
1500 who argue that the bulb doesn't need to be changed, it has served us well for years and it would show a lack of respect to those "real" hams who have basked in the illumination of the lamp if we now change it.

12 to submit various petitions to the FCC as to why the bulb should or should not be changed.

The FCC finally issues a statement that the bulb no longer serves an illuminatory purpose, and decrees that the bulb will be changed, 30 days after it's published in the federal register.

Isn't it strange that when a veteran amateur posts "How many no code amateurs does it take to change a light bulb" it's considered comedy, but when the shoe is on the other foot, OH NO, YOU'RE INSULTING US! WE KNOW CODE!

Good for you. Since it is no longer REQUIRED to know code, your point is moot. Send all the CW you want. There's no longer a requirement to know it.
If you read the post carefully you'll see that I said "unwilling to learn"... not technician... big difference. A few of the posters here have been very verbal in the past about their unwillingness to learn, and have gone on to whine about how "unfair" ham radio has been.

This same class of folks in society in general typically collect welfare checks for a living. And now that they've won a $5k lotto, they are going around telling the rest of us that we are stupid for having actually worked for a living.

How many NCTs does it take to change a lightbulb?

1. Two. One to hold it and the other to pound it into the socket with a hammer.

2. Two. One to change it and the other to "experience it".

3. None. NCTs don't screw in lightbulbs. They do it in the back seat of Toyotas.

4. One, but it takes a whole case of lightbulbs.

5. What kind of answer seems right to you?

6. Two: One to screw it in and one to observe how the lightbulb itself symbolizes a single incandescent beacon of subjective reality in a netherworld of endless absurdity reaching out toward a maudlin cosmos of nothingness.

7. Two. One to assure that they know exactly how to do it without any help while the other screws the bulb into the water faucet.

8. All of them.

9. None, because people who glow in the dark don't need lightbulbs.

10. The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned-out light bulb?

11. What's a lightbulb?

12. Five. One to hold the bulb and four to drink until the room spins.

13. Nineteen. One to hold the elephant, and the penguin to fill up the car with a deaf fish.

14. It will never change if you force it to change.

15. Two. One to screw it in and one to say "Fabulous!"

and

16. How many Canadian Amateurs does it take? Both of them.

:rock: ....so ( more or less ) what all this hate and discontent boils down to COULD be this scenerio ---

all these folks worked real hard for a long time to get to where they are ( the older farts ) .

Now along come these newfangled whippersnappers who ( by the grace and everlasting mercy of the federal government / FCC ) are enjoying communicating on the same frequencies, with less than half of the work / effort.

So ( of course ) there is envy, jealousy, hatred , sporatic acts of verbal violence between the two groups.

Both groups went by the rules and regulations of the FCC at the time they got their license ( dont think any one disagrees with that part ).

So, with all due respect to both sides, if there is any participitant that is at fault, it is the FCC. The judge messed up.

Like others have posted here, I dont hear any hate or animosity ON - THE - AIR, it is all here on the internet .

So, kids, get over it.

It aint like the FCC is going to reverse their December 2006 decision...the FCC dont DO that kind of stuff. They thought long and hard ( about 10 seconds worth ) before making this decision to do what they did.

So, both sides, behave. There are agitators on both sides ( every one knows who they are ) who need to act better ( myself included ).

...and...complaining to the FCC wont do any good, it will just lessen their already low opinion OF amateurs and wont help nothing for our future.

If YOU like to use CW, then ( by all means ) use it till your fingers / toes fall off...and if you don't, well, use another mode for your communications ( there are many to choose from ) .

simple & to the point. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Nope, they'll say that we don't need the bulb anymore because the sun shines during the day.

Bruce Perens, Fred Maia, Carl Stephensen et al and the many anti-lighters will then boast about a "victory" on their website "no lightbulb international"

They claim that we get enough light from the sun and those that want to see in the dark shouldn't be forced to see the lightbulb, and that those that want light can bring their own flashlights.

Those that have seen the benefit of the light for years will just shake their heads in disgust but continue to teach others to light the way properly.

You all are looking at this wrong... Heres how it goes:

1. hmm kinda dark in here, but I can still read my compy monitor and see the radio.
2. hmm which knob is the notch filter again, dang its dark, oooh looky there a desk lamp. problem fixed.
3. Wifey comes in the room and asks what your doing in a dark cave, you reply with "I decided to use the desk lamp in an effort to create a more romantic atmosphere." Wifey says "Whatever"
4. Desk lamp burns out...
5. Now where was that knob again?
6. To eliminate knob finding problem now you take HF rig and your VHF/UHF rig point thier faces towards each other so the backlighting of the displays casts enough light to read the front of the other radio.
7. Wifey comes back in and asks why its pitch black, you respond with " I have a headache and it was too bright in here... Wifey shakes head and leaves again.

fast forward 2 days later.

8. Wifey comes in yet again, flips light switch this time and realizes the light dosent come on, then she comes over and clicks the desk lamp, that dosent come on... Then you get "THE LOOK" if your married you know what I am talking about, but at this time its pitch black you say?? You do not need light to know your getting "THE LOOK" you feel a burning sensation in your frontal lobe and then you automatically know you wont be getting any "nookie" for at least 2 weeks. If your not married you will learn about "THE LOOK" someday...
8. At this point you are trying to do ANYTHING to save your dignity and you say to Wifey "Oh yeah I forgot to tell you I disabled all incandescent light bulbs in the room due to a RF experiment you are conducting involving the emissions of a tungsten filament fed with a 60Hertz sine wave.
Fast forward another 2 weeks...
9. Sitting at dinner with the Wifey, conversation as normal, until she says "I went down to your room and was looking for our tax info from last year and when are you going to fix the lights?"
You sitting there after 3 or 4 beers and a half mouthfull of steak mumble "yeah I will pick up some bulbs on my way home from work to morrow" Then you all of the sudden feel that burning sensation again and look up and now you see what all married men fear... Super She-Devil is sitting across from you http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif and she replies with "You have been sitting down in that dark @!@#$% room for six @#$%& weeks because your too *%$# lazy to change a $1.00 light @(#* bulb?"
10. At this point you are realizing it will be at least 4 months before you are going to get any loving what so ever....
11. You come home from work early the next day with 3 bags full of light bulbs, proceed to change every bulb in the house in a preventative effort to avoid the embarassment again any time soon.

So therefore, it takes only one Amateur Extra to change the light bulb, but it takes them 6 weeks, a case of beer, one pissed off wife and a ruined steak dinner before it gets done.:D

...( attempt at humor )...

it could be the same folks that buy these lisght bulb inserts that lat you manually turn down any light bulb output down to around 5 - 10 watts ( so they last longer ).....and light the radio room by candlelight ( or the whole house )...the hubby dont work ( bad back ? ) and the wife has 2 jobs , the kids have no shoes in the summertime, but the amateur station has a KW amplifier ( or more ), with a shiny new tower, and big antenna.... the wifes car tires are re-caps, and the motor knocks...but there is no money for a newer vehicle, yet there IS plenty of money for amateur / cb radio projects...the peanut butter jars have 2111 on the lid, but no one has got sick yet and the jar aint half empty... the lawn mower dont work, there are torn bags of aluminum cans ( mostly beer ) scattered through the back yard, and the mailbox is lying next to the pavement...but the hubby cant put the mailbox back up ( bad back, remember ? ) , yet he can swing the 42 pounds of a kenwood ts - 940 HF rig with ease . He can also talk on the radio all day, but cant cook a microwave meal for himself or the kids.

If it was the code test, one has to wonder how much actual effort went in to learning the code.

If it's number of times learning, 7 or 8 isn't enough. It took me a month of practice which was more than 7 or 8 times.

Ok, back to original question. If we are talking about the instant Extras, it would be:

What's a light bulb? Can I make a di-light? How long is a light bulb? What is it for? Are light bulbs a new invention? Can I invent it? Is there a formula? Does it have to be plugged in? Into what? Where? Why? How? How big is a light bulb?

Anybody remember the "cram school First Phone folks?" Be Chief Engineer at a radio station! Duh, where's the transmitter? Does this station have a transmitter?
