Some of mine did.

Thought Ellen did a good job.

Could've been shorter.

The traffic in H'wood sucked all evening, and really up 'til this morning. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

It's cleared out now. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Those little statues are named after amateur radio satellites, ya know?

Didn't watch.
I can think of at least 200 things I'd rather do with 3.5 to 4 hours.

So, who watches? I had rather pulled my fingernails out with needlenose pliers than watch the oscars. Or anything else on TV.

Excuse me while I hijack the thread, sorry Steve.

Y'all heard any good DX lately? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Dull - bring back Johnny Carson or Bob Hope.

Best picture -- Babel was the only film that should have been nominated.

That's how I feel about pro sports. Didn't watch it here. Come to think of it, didn't go to a movie in the last year, either.

I caught the last half an hour, but really didn't see a lot of the films that were nominated, so it didn't mean a lot to me. From the looks of the overnight ratings, not a lot of people did watch either.

Steve, I gave up watching several years ago. I don't follow movies like I once did either -- very boring. If I watch a movie its usually 1940's vintage.

I guess that was a 4 hour broadcast of the Democrat Party winter meeting. #LIBS by the boat load, and the ratings continue to drop.

Gee, I cant think of anything I'd rather do than watch a group of people pat themselves on the back and tell each other how great they are. ...And I think it's really nice of them to take the time to broadcast it so all of us can know how great they are too. What a selfless group of greatness! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Babel was great, I agree.

But I saw most of the films nominated and still like "the movies."

Jack Nicholson must be filming a special about Britney Spears, I see he shaved his head.

BBC, there's a filming going on right now up at Rocky Peak (Chatsworth), tons of trailers and I see Tom Cruise running around. Looks like it's just starting. Know what the film is??

I'd never even heard of a few of the films nominated. I think the days of the bestselling movie with broad audience appeal winning awards are over. That's too bad, as I like movies, but I never see any of the ones that seem to be nominated; they don't all make it out this way.
I think Hollywood is becoming irrelevant. The popularity of films is in decline, as is broadcast TV. That's too bad. It will never go completely away, but it will never completely appeal to the majority of Americans again. It will be more of a specialty. I think Hollywood producers and directors have underestimated the American people. That includes television. They keep feeding the public a steady diet of garbage and call it food. Personally, I don't care about any of the celebrities' politics, or any of that stuff. I don't watch movies because most of them are not very good; at least the ones in wide release. Same goes for TV. Long gone are the days of raising the level of the art. Now it's about profit margin, and that's too bad.

Come on, now. It's always been about profit, from the distribution of the very first silent film. Never was about anything else.

But good content is not only possible but has been often achieved in the process.

I like movies. I watch old ones from the beginning of the "talkies," and even some silent films at times. And I watch the blockbusters from the 30s and 40s, and the 50s. And of course I like a lot of films made today.

In my opinion, the art of acting has progressed a great deal. Today's actors and actresses are incredibly talented (they have to be, they're selected from a huge pool of literally millions of would-be actors to be in the miniscule active pool of those who are working) and I thinkk far better than their predecessors, in every way. They're more convincing, do better accents, take on more interesting personas; and what's very cool is that most of them can do this without taking themselves too seriously. Most great actors today have real lives and families and aren't part of the Hollywood "mystique" that used to surround the great ones of yesteryear.

The productions are better, too. The sets are improved, the soundstages better designed, the equipment vastly superior; the lighting, the music, the costuming, and every other aspect of production are all better than they ever were, and actually (to me) make the films of the 30s and 40s laughable by comparison. The oldies may have been classics, but they weren't very good.

There must be a few other fans like me out there or nobody'd be making any films, because nobody would be watching them.

Still awaiting my "award" for working my 60+ a week government job......I'm not going to hold my breath for it.

Big moving plans for this fall. Maybe that is what my award will be.

I guess I am a bit of a movie buff, because I am sorry I missed the Oscars -- I had to work. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Still, after I was done working quite late last night, I watched a remarkable movie, the power of which is still with me this morning. The movie was "V for Vendetta". My expectations for the movie were quite low, but I was blown away. Wow!

Great picture.

I like Natalie Portman in anything.

Actually, I'd probably like her a lot in "nothing," but haven't had the opportunity. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I didn't have any picks, don't know who was nominated for anything [except for the "Best Musical Score" nominees being discussed on NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday], didn't watch a single minute, it's Tuesday and I still don't know who won any given award, except that apparently Martin Scorsese finally won his first Oscar for something.

Ellen DeGeneres hosted? I didn't know that, either.

Three IMDb pages that might answer WIK's Tom Cruise question... One (http://imdb.com/title/tt0891527/), two (http://imdb.com/title/tt0457467/), three (http://imdb.com/title/tt0963174/).

I see Pan's Labyrinth won some kind of award. That's one that I thought was worth watching.

Went to see Hannibal Rising this weekend. I'd recommend that one too.

Neither film had a single scene of cars flying through the air!

Babel is on my list. I missed it, but it's now out on DVD. Hopefully, it doesn't have any flying cars either.

Breach is now playing locally. I plan to see that one.

But I didn't bother to watch the Oscars on TV. Like most of the stuff or commercial TV, too much a waste of time.
