View Full Version : Its Monday....where are all the complaints
Well, its Monday. #I haven't seen the usual litany of complaints about the weekend's contests.
We had the:
CQWW 160 SSB
North Carolina QSO party
NAQP RTTY contest
REF SSB contest
and the UBA DX contest
I worked stations in at least four of them. #Where are the complaints about blocked out QSOs? # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

OK, I'll complain. The power went out right in the middle of the RTTY contest, so I didn't get to run any more than about half an hour! We had a major ice storm here in the Midwest and thousands of folks are still without power. We got ours back later in the evening of the RTTY one, but at that point, I had much more on my plate than the contest. I had 2 inches of ice on my antennas, no phone, internet, cable, etc. Anyway that's my complaint. It sure sounded like FUN! I wish I could have been there! I did manage a snow day today for it as well as tomorrow. Not as much snow days as "no power=no school" days.
So, you're saying that you had fun in the contest, and would have had MORE fun if you could have operated more than half an hour in the contest?

Yep, I'm complaining because Mother Nature snuffed out my fun.
You said you wanted some complaints! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

You are a week early. You won't hear any complaints until next Monday. Next weekend is the SSB portion of the ARRL International DX Contest.
Forget about the fact that those mean-spirited contest haters can operate below the phone portion of the band or on the WARC bands, the contest is sure to ruin the enjoyment of all those poor phone-only operators who would rather waste their time complaining rather than exercising their options.

I never heard one single station in the Mississippi QSO party this weekend. I was listening, but never heard one.
I too got some good results in the 160 meter contest, from Western Pennsylvania, worked Jamaica, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Saskatchewan and Oregon plus a bunch of states (24).
All with 100 watts, no amp here either.....(WHINE, WHINE, MOAN, MOAN)
Not bad for a transmitting antenna that was a roll of speaker wire thrown out across my back-yard. Those that heard me MUST have fabulous receiving setups, because it sure wasn't due to my GREAT transmitting antenna.
The NC QSO party was OK, but there didn't seem to be many stations on the air. I worked a whole 36 Q's on 40 & 80.
I guess I'm just accustomed to the PA QSO Party where there are gobs of stations operating.
I'm looking forward to the slugfest this weekend. Have to beat last years score.
It's all good practice for Field Day in June.

Next Monday? I'd be willing to bet we see complaints by Saturday. Who wants to start a poll on when the first complaint is registered?

I just find it ironic that folks complain about so many contests being on every weekend of the year, and yet there were apparently at least 6 of them this past weekend. Not a peep. Not one.

BNY and LIX, check your logs and see if you worked us, N7GP. We did have a full QW TX antenna with elevated radials and 16 beverage antennas for RX. 1500 watts, too. We worked all 50 on 160 and ZL and VK. RI and AK were the last two for us, in the early morning of Sunday.

Here's a complaint - I didn't work any stations from AK, CT, VT, ME, ND, HI or WY in the NAQP RTTY. I need those states for RTTY WAS.
And here's another - propagation was poor, especially on 15m and 10m.
On the bright side, I did work two new states (WV and ID), and one new DX (an M0, not rare, but the first for me).
There were not many RTTY stations in the NAQP compared to the ARRL RTTY Roundup back in January. The PSK areas were mostly clear of RTTY, and there was plenty of room for CW.

That was this weekend? damn.. usually try to give out a few contacts.
Strange though, I made a bunch of PSK contacts, usually when there's an RTTY they encroach into the PSK slice.
So I guess that's no contest complaints here. 'sides I usually either join 'em, or sod off to 17M or something.

Well, I'm pouting because I missed the QSO parties, had a family gathering that kept me off the air, the wind knocked my dipole down, and I'm so short I had a hard time getting it tied off on a tree limb so that it was high enough not to clothesline the neighborhood kids when they run through the yard! Oh, and I don't have a 160 meter antenna.
Just kidding, looking forward to this weekend though ... see you on SSB.

Here's my complaint. I FORGOT!
I wanted to both MSQP and RYQP. I only heard one MSQP station, in Oktibe-keyful County. He very crisply spelled it out in full on every contact. But I was too busy to answer his CQ. I was using Morse as background music.

They are going to be severly outnumbered by the newly minted Generals who will be taking the opportunity to get some easy DX in the log. If 10 has any openings at all, I know of quite a few Techs who will be on for the contest.
One of our local 2m/6m rag chew group upgraded to General this weekend and today was excitedly telling us about the DX he worked yesterday on 20 & 17M. He is already a skilled VHF contestor and says he will jump in to both the ARRL and the CQ WPX contests.
My complaint is that Mother Nature has conspired against me as well. My wire broke in the middle of one leg two weeks ago and the snow and ice have made it too dangerous to get up on the roof of the house to fix it. I missed the ARRL CW DX contest and may miss the SSB one as well. I'd better have the antenna fixed by WPX weekend, I have the 3rd District SO-LP wires/TB title on the line and was planning on challenging for the Atlantic Division title in that class.
Go PVRC!

My complaint - I could hear the NC QSO party, but the weather put my hastily-strung up dipole on the ground. For reasons I don't quite understand, I could hear all the action with my DOP (Dipole On Ground) antenna. And, of course, noone heard me.;)

Here is my complaint. Right in the middle of the contest, sweeping the bands and giving out points, I hear this cool call, working split, 14.040/14.042. I was hearing all kinds of DX call signs trying him, and a number of US "big guns".
On my fifth try to get in, I hear my call come back. Quick exchage of RST and TU. Cool.
It was "XF2K" working an IOTA site on Larga Island, off the Mexican east coast. And I am collecting IOTA QSL cards. Too cool.
Now I am going to have to make good on my threat to run a station on the listed island in the Missouri River near me. That is my complaint. If it is warm enough to work from the island, the mesquetos will strip the flesh off a person in 60 seconds. And it is all this contest's fault.
