I think it is kinda obvious.

The search feature seems to be a bit snappier now BTW. I searched on "kc7jty" and Ikonboard kind of "threw up" on my screen. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Fred just posted concerning the search feature in the News Section:

Thanks everyone, for your kind comments. To answer a few of the questions thus far:

1. Yes, the new machine has dual power supplies :-)

2. The Search feature has been temporarily disabled for most accounts. The reason is that the new server is so much faster that it's swamping the back end database machine with requests. The article search requests in particular are compute intensive and tend to load up the database server quite a bit.

To fix the search problem, I've today ordered a replacement server, an x4200 Sun and will be retiring the E280R which has been running non-stop (without reboot) for the past 506 days. The new x4200 is several times faster and features two dual-core Opteron processors (model 275). In addition, I'm contemplating removing articles thar are more than two years old. Right now we have articles still in the database that are 5 years old. This would speed up things as well.

That's all for now. I'm still working frantically on all this to make sure things are done right.

Thank God I thought the flux capacitor had died again.

Sorry I was thinking all those things about you.

No hard feelings?

I am thinking that if non-subscribers can still use the search feature, maybe I don't need to re-subscribe. I can use the money to buy a couple of 12-packs and post in the forums with my wet whistle...

Perhaps Fred needs to raise the pain for non-subscribing big-shot, globe-trotters like my buddy Jerry so he will give his credit card number to QRZ... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
