Archaeologists find skeletons locked in a tender embrace near Verona, Italy, where Shakespeare's classic star-crossed tale 'Romeo and Juliet' was set. The young lovers' remains were buried between 5,000 and 6,000 years ago. They appear to cuddle closely while facing each other on their sides.

that long ago they were probably just like dogs. Not having any natural affection.
I think you are letting that dumb Geico commercial, where the cave men are on par with modern man, cloud your reasoning powers.

You folks are all mislead by emotion.
The two figures are locked in a strangle embrace. They choken each other to death.
That's just the way they fell.

That was 2007. I think they said they'd been there longer than that.

I hope one skeleton is male and the other is female, otherwise the most boring and pointless debates will spring from the find.

Genetically speaking, I doubt they were detectably different from modern man. There has probably been some loss of intellectual capacity since then anyway.

No doubt about it.

Oops! In the follow-up article it says that just outside the door to the "house"--where the archaeologists found the entwined lovers--they found the skeleton of the male lover's wife in a pose of reaching forward to open the door.

They were just trying to console each other after finding out the FCC was dropping the code testing. Probably died of broken hearts.
