QRZ is slow on both browsers..but a little less slow with Firefox.

Down in the lower bar, the Firefox browser says something like (It's disapeared) "Loading from Googlesyndication.com.

WTF? I usta trust Google. What are they doing? Anyone else get this?

Oh, wait...it's there again...

Yes, Google is very slow or down...I tried their main search site and it timed out. Whew! Wonder what's up?

I guess this is another point for Firefox. It at least still comes up fast while waiting for the google stuff to load, whereas IE 7 gets very bogged down.

Three of the thirteen servers that control the Internet worldwide were "hacked". This is according to several television news outlets. That effectively slowed down the Internet for several hours.

There are no servers that control the internet and no servers were "hacked."

A distributed denial of service (ddos) attack was attempted against three of the DNS root servers.

It is very unlikely that a success of the attack would cause the symptoms being described here, as they are symptom of failure to access and not failures to resolve names.

Failures to resolve names get messages like "server not found" from Firefox.

It sounds like you're seeing congestion between your host and Google's servers, which can be caused by a lot of things, and might even be indirectly a side effect of the ddos

pagead2.googlesyndication.com is the server which provides Google AdSense (https://www.google.com/adsense/) advertising to sites which particpate in that program (like QRZ.com does). It also has nothing to do with the Google search box on the side of the page.

As AE6IP said, the recent attack on 3 of the 13 root DNS servers would probably have nothing to do with you seeing a slow response from googlesyndication.com. The news media is hyping this story beyond all reasonable measure, as it really had no noticeable effect on the internet at all. It would take several days of a continuous, all-out denial-of-service attack on all 13 root DNS servers before anyone would start to see any side effects. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

But I guess what it boils down to is: why is it a pain? If the rest of the page loads, but content from pagead2.googlesyndication.com takes a few extra seconds, what harm is there? You can still read everything else on the page while the ads finish loading...
