...that appears to have mistaken a Kenwood TS-50 for a type accepted HF marine radio. I like how they "encourage" their patrons to get a HAM license (and since when did it become an acronym?).

Anyway, I have always been under the impression that amateur transceivers were to legal to use ONLY in the ham bands, with the only exception being MARS/CAP. Has that changed?

I like how they offer to "open up" your radio so it will transmit "anywhere".

This smacks of a truck stop CB shop on the waterfront...I would think that if someone had the means to invest in a boat they could sail that far from shore, surely they could spring for a legitimate HF marine radio...?

ETA: I just realized this place is in Canada. I know this is not legal in the US, but is it OK in Canada? Are Canadians allowed to put any rig on the air any old where they want?

In reality HF maine use is almost unregulated here. The DOF (Department of Fisheries) and the DOT (Department of Transport) have more power then Industry Canada.

It is noty illegal as far as I know in canada anyway to do as they are suggesting. No fixed bandplans here either.

4MHz is a chatterbox of transmissions on USB alot of nights by hams/mariners/people using it for communication. IC DOES NOT CARE! Anything below 88MHz is not their concern unless they get complaints. In fact i doubt they care of the FM band much.

I know the DOT (not industry canada) made some guys pay a fine for having marine vhf in their truck for business in Victoria.
