Just received my very first catalog from Texas Towers today.

That is not the reason I say finally though.

There are PRICES in the catalog!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats right, it does not state "CALL FOR BEST PRICE"

What good is a catalog if it says "CALL FOR BEST PRICE"

Imagine the Sears catalog, "CALL FOR BEST PRICE" it would suck!

There is even a web page that says "CALL FOR BEST PRICE"

There's another major dealer out there that does this, "call for best price" thing in their printed catalog. It led me to believe that if you actually called, you might get a better price (they do have their prices listed online). That's not the case. Their "call" price is the same as their online pricing.

The only logic I could see in having someone call for pricing would be to cover retail price flunctuations. Still, the dealer paid $x.00... his mark up is x% ... that should be the price to the consumer. Oh well, apparently they have the time for, "I need a quote on ..."

Getting you to call them increases the chances of making the sale. Everybody will say they don't fall for that but the fact is it helps.

Let's not forget the chance of prices changing between catalogs. It's easy and cheap to change prices on a website. Not so cheap to reprint a catalog.

With that said, no I don't like the call for price thing either. I always think of the old "If you have to ask you can't afford it" thing.

I shop on line, and most of my stuff comes from Gigaparts. They are relatively local and my orders usually show up on my door less than 24 hours after I make the online order. Beats waiting for days, and all of their prices are online.

Maybe I'll win their sweepstakes this go round... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It's unfortunate, texas towers would get my business but he has to trash his website up with all of that nationalistic junk.

I love this country, and I'm all for showing your personal pride, but his site is just tacky and it feels very unprofessional.

Very "Back of a Dixie barn" feel to his company. I understand that some people prefer to business this way; not me. Times, they are a'changing.

You'd go ballistic in my back yard, then... I actually have a "little red barn" out there. And I'm in Dixie...

I do agree that going overboard on animated graphics and javascript tends to make a site less useful, and seem cluttered... but that's their decision.

If they have the best prices/service, that's who I'll buy from.

But that's me... to each his own.

I used to really enjoy getting the AES catalogs. My "wish book" # # # However once they got going with the "call for price" thing I toss them right into the garbage.
Price IS important to me. At least tell me what full retail is anyhow! # THEN add "call for BEST price today" or #some such. If I dont have a general idea of how much something costs I dont know if it is within my striking range to buy someday or not............. # I dont need a firm price printed in a catalog, But I do at least need an idea of its price range. #When I really get serious about buying something, Then I WILL call and get the best prices.
Great to hear someone is again printing prices! #
Texas Towers will be higher on my potential list of suppliers than those who do not provide a catalog.

I buy mostly from Gigaparts for one good reason, and other ham stores should take note -

Their ordering system and web storefront is at least semi-decent.

Other retailers would tell you "call" or "fax" or order via e-mail.

I hate picking up the telephone.

I hate faxing. Carlos mencia had the right idea - take a hammer to the fax machine.

If you tell people to call/fax, why do you have a website with prices?

Email my order? For someone to steal my credit card number?

With Gigaparts, I can look for what I want using search, then order it right then and there, and it has the description and pictures all in one.

Their prices aren't half bad either.

Add free shipping to seal the deal.

I can't believe you posted such a waste of a Sears catalog. Everyone knows they serve a much higher purpose. Without my copy that old, three legged dresser would be noticeably leaning to one corner. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I work for an electronics distributor. We have been getting price changes on some things almost every week.
Solder is one item that our cost changes real often. Wire costs have gone up more than double what we paid for it a year ago. The cost of many raw materials and transportation costs have risen dramatically in a short time. Perhaps other companies are also feeling the pince.
This well may be the reason for call for best pricing.

When I look at the ads in QST and see the "Call For Best Price" I just bypass the ads. AES in many cases will have a price on their ads.

AES was the first mega ham store that I did business with. They used to run their used list every month in QST and my first purchase there was a used Swan 250 6 meter transceiver with supply for about $250 including shipping (1966). I have purchased a number of items from the over the years.

I can not imagine why other ham equipment companies do not list their prices in their ads. You are either confident of your price or you are not. If a price is not listed my first thought is that it it is probably overpriced in the first place.

I did a research study some years ago as it concerned classified newspaper advertising. We found out that people generally tend to ignore ads that do not have a price listed for their item. We found that people were wary of getting into a haggling situation, or finding out that the price is way over what they thought it would be and embarrass themselves or get confrontational.

Can you imagine car dealers running their inventory in the newspaper or on the internet but not listing there prices (at least their starting prices)? Can you imagine the same dealer asking you to call first before you step on their lot? Same can be said for department stores real estate companies and grocery chains.

Why would ham radio dealers conduct business so differently than other businesses who do advertise their prices?

If the price ain't there.... I don't care.

I just connected to Texas Towers. I noticed something strange.

The LDG AT-1000 auto-tuner has a power handling capacity of 1000 Watts SSB. The accessories listed are a couple of Baluns for random wire and balanced line feeds. Both these Baluns power handling limits are 200 watts.

I think you mistyped the URL or your confuser has a bad bug.
