View Full Version : QSL.NET
It doesn't even have a DNS listing anymore.
Could it be gone completely, for good?

Someone reported, whether true or not, that the contact details for the domain were not correct, so ICANN, under its rules, required that the domain be turned off until the information is correct.
I don't know what the old info showed.
This should get sorted as soon as someone can reach the right folks at the registrar.

You get what you pay for. A good reminder of how good we have it here.
hmmm..that's unusual. They've been around for a long time serving the ham community. I remember setting up some club websites with them years ago. I know at least one of the sites was still active.
I'm sure that if the problem was expected that they would have sent out emails to their users.
Hopefully this is a temporary issue.
Best,
Brian
Well, the whois information is back.

They've been abysmally slow here for AGES....i think they just took their last gasp.
I think new servers are being built for qsl.net

It's still not right... I was able to query the nameserver directly, get an IP, and the web server does respond...
I suspect it'll be along sometime this weekend.
My ISP's DNS is reporting that www.qsl.net does not exist. Hopefully, it's just slow getting updates. Fortunately, I have my web pages backed up here...

Asked for a password reset several times. Never acknowledged me. My crap on there is YEARS outdated. I hope it went up in a ball of flames!

There are still issues... the root nameservers don't seem to have the latest updates, which is unusual, since the whois information has been updated and shows the correct nameservers.
I added the correct IP to my HOSTS file locally, and I'm able to access www.qsl.net, but my nameservers are still reporting that the roots do not have the domain at all.
All along, it has looked like someone has a vendetta against qsl.net and I've not seen anything yet that would make me believe otherwise.
I've seen threads on several forums about the problems qsl.net has been experiencing and I'm suprised at how many negative posts there are. If I remember correctly, qsl.net offered free hosting services and if ppl wanted to donate (I think it was $10/year) that was fine.
I'm willing to bet that a majority of the people who used this service never paid a penny. I wonder how many ppl that are posting negative posts paid anything.
The way I see it, if you don't have a backup copy of your info that is your fault.
To me...it looks like they are trying to get their servers back online. The dns record has been updated...which is a positive sign.
I'm not sure if qsl.net sent emails out to their users regarding their issues. I would think that they would...however, the way ppl change email addresses their records may not be up to date.
I maintain two hosting servers so I know what goes into maintaining such a service. I wish I had the patience and dedication to provide a service that qsl.net has provided.
This is just how I see it.
Best,
Brian

That's more likely to happen around here, Charlie!

Dave Bernstein's excellent DXLabs suite of apps (for Windows, BTW, and not this drivel Linux that I am using to post this via Opera, which is a decent browser) moved from QSL some time back due to the many issues plaguing that site (SLOW being only one of which, and perhaps the least).
As Chris noted above, we are lucky to have such a resource as QRZ literally at our fingertips, and though we abuse it on occasion (hopefully not to the point of banishment), it is a marvelous site. That's why I happily became a subscriber.
TU, Freddie.
