Beware of kd8ddw

Purchased a receiver from Nathan Smith as advertised and as mentioned by him from his emails....
"Looks great and works great". Upon arrival (this receiver is a Wadley Loop tuner model) I noiced there is
no preselector dial, looked inside and the whole preselector unit is gone! Also the radio had most of the lettering rubbed off, bottom line the radio is a mess. When approached with several emails about the radio's condition his answer was... "it was fine when I had it" or "it must have happened during shipping, and do you really need the lettering?" I gave him a chance to
try and work this problem, he refused.
I am really sorry I have to expose this guy in this manner but he is clearly an insult to the ham radio community and to all of us that are trying to buy, sell and trade honestly.
He was recently "kicked out" of QTH.com and has a history, here is a link....

Please be careful when dealing with him

If you knew he had a history? Why did you try to deal with him? Unless you found out his history after the fact of the dealing.Hard to trust anyone any more.

I did not know till later on. I have purchased all of my radios from receivers to HF rigs from hams on the net and will keep on doing it, but will be a little more careful next time. Dealing with hams has been a great experience, in worse cases I have always been able to work out any problems, just about every ham I have met so far in my 16 years as a ham op. has been a gentleman.

I hate to say this and don't mean to categorize, but every Technician class seller I have dealt with to date, has lied to me, pass off items in a similar fashion (was working when I sent it). Note my post on KD4BBP. Similar situation. Now I am out of the money with a piece of broken junk.

Hope you get your issue resolved.

Same situation here, out of the money and stuck with a piece of junk, this radio should have been sold as a parts radio, this guy actually thought by smudging the dial's cover I would not notice there is no dial there plus missing parts? Not sure if it has to do so much with being a technician or just plain dis-honesty. When he went as far as telling me this could have been a shipping issue, I knew right there this guy was a wise a__! Oh well, not going to go on beating a dead horse, I'll take it as a lesson learned and perhaps get a portion of my money back by selling it as a parts radio.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif Yep !!!! Sounds like the same guy that tryed to get me on a 2 mtr radio deal. I sent a postal money order, But never got the rig. After MANY emails stateing that the rig And money order were sent back to me, I just filed a claim with the postal Authoritys to recover my money. Took over a month to recover my money, But I got it back. To this date The so-called rig that was sent has never shown up. Imagine that.

BUYER BEWARE !!!! I LEARNED THE HARD WAY, NEVER AGAIN. !!!!!!!!

Please dont catagorize all the Techs the same. " Cant trust em"... I have only been a tech for a month, just earned my general licence today. I know I would never sell or disquise a piece of crap to anyone. What you were dealing with was a con man basically. So please dont give all the techs a bad rap http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
