I was wondering if someone would email my son David to encourage interest in ham radio. He has shown a desire in ham radio, the problem is that there are no youth in our area that are hams. He is 11 years old. His email is swat_kid@msn.com

I would but I'm probably a bit older than he could really relate to well.

If you want him to email me, if he feels better doing that then its kb1lqd@arrl.net....

I am not a youth but I would like to make a suggestion. Take him to field day. Get him on the air. My elmer took me to Field day when I was 12. He was a great CW op. I listened with headphones the whole weekend. I didn't know what I was hearing though. I heard code in my sleep for a week after that. I was hooked. I didn't have the support of my parents but I still went for it. I took my wife to field day and got her hooked too. Good luck getting him interested. Just dont push to hard. Sometimes you have to point them in the right direction and let them go for it. Find him a good elmer besides the old man # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif # 73, Sean
Edit: Wanted to clarify. I wasn't refering to the age of the elmer. I ment some kids will listen to outside influences over there Dad. (I call my Dad old man) I had several Elmers. Some much older than my Dad and some younger.

Elmers are always good...even if they aren't your own age...nearly all my elmers are older than my old man but that's not an issue...I'd email the Kid but I'm not even sure if I still I still qualify as youth...I turned 19 2 weeks ago

I think you should remove the email from this website to prevent it being picked up by a spam-bot. Ham's who would like to email your son could ask his e-mail in a PM.

I'm probably a little old, also, but if he's intersted, tell him not to get discouraged about testing. After less then a month he will probably be able to ace the Tech. Just keep studying now your talking or whatever works well for him.
