"Florida -- yes Florida -- owned the field it wasn't supposed to be on, embarrassing Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and No. 1 Ohio State 41-14 on Monday night to run away with the national championship. "

Y'all can't blame the refs for this one. Except for the opening kickoff return, OSU was outmatched, outslugged and out smarted in every phase of the game.

for K1OU,

Jerry,

It was a good game with two fine teams. But the Gators were victorious over the Buckeyes. Maybe next year.

This is the first team I have rooted for this year that actually won. I'm a FSU and Miami Dolphins fan. Yes, I did have to hold my nose a bit to pull for the Gators. But they ARE from my home state. There is much celebration in Gainesville tonight!

BTW, please don't send buckeyes to settle our little wager. As to what to send, here's a small HINT: I have a sweet tooth and I do love fruit.

Regards,

Richard

The better team won. I am INCREDIBLY embarrassed to be an Ohio State fan today.

I am deeply disappointed that Jim Tressel didn't do a better job at instilling a sense of urgency in his players. He looked like an idiot with a bad game plan.

Hmmm, spanked by one of those mediocre SEC teams.
Who would have thought?

BUCKEYES

1 1/2 cup peanut butter
6 cups confectioners sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1. Blend peanut butter, sugar and vanilla (Dough will look dry)
2. #Roll into 1" balls and place on wax lined cookie sheet
3. #Poke a toothpick into the top of each ball (to be used later as a handle for dipping) and #chill in the freezer until hard.
4. #Melt chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler (use very low heat - not much hotter than tap water or the chocolate will get grainy. # This will take awhile)
5. #Dip frozen peanut butter balls into chocolate by holding onto the toothpick. #Leave a small portion of peanut butter showing at the top to make them look like buckeyes. #
6. #Place back on the wax paper and refrigerate at least 2 hours.

What is the difference between a Ohio State Buckeye and a Corn Flake?

I still have until Feb. to support Florida when they play UT in basketball. I can go back to being a Gator Hater then.

Jerry,

I personally don't consider myself a "gator hater" anymore, not since Spurrier left. BTW, he has chilled out a bit since his NFL stint, so I don't hate him like I used to. In fact, I'm really glad he's coaching in the SEC, it seemed kind of odd without him!

Now, you wouldn't believe the kind of animosity down here in Baton Rouge with Nick Saban in Bama. Good church going Christians are coming up with choice names for him down here! He's beginning to become the surrogate "coach that everyone loves to hate" that Spurrier used to be. I'm excited at the potential renewed rivalry between UT and Bama.

This puts me in mind of another OSU Heisman trophy winner named Eddie George who was shamed by UT in the Citrus Bowl a few years back.

There is a pungent bias in the sports media towards Northeastern and Pacific coast schools when it comes to the Heisman.
Only 2 SEC players have one the trophy since 1985, Bo Jackson and Danny Wuerffel. Thats 21 YEARS with only 2 trophies! Yest the list is littered with Big 10, Pac-10, and Big-12 winners. What's equally amazing is that there has been no shortage of National Championship caliber SEC teams in that span, with Florida garnering 2 trophies and Tennessee and LSU claiming one each. And only a year or so before Wuerffel getting the trophy, Alabama had a national title as well.

This bias wouldn't have been so pronounced had Peyton Manning been awarded the trophy as was his due. I know, SOUR GRAPES, but that swipe at the Manning family and both Tennessee and the SEC will not soon be forgotten.

I love to hate Spurrier but I give him his due as being a creative coach.
He is from Tennessee,you know.
I do agree that Manning should have won the Heisman going away as the player that most opitimized college football.
Win or lose no one is more a student of the game than Peyton.
I do remember the Tide/Vols rivalry especially when the Bear was there. Alabama was the team to beat and Tennessee just could not do it.
Either way , no college football till next fall so........ go Colts!

Don't forget that there is only ONE undefeated DIV 1 major conference champion, and THEY beat the Big 12 champion in their bowl game.

The Boise State Broncos are the legitimate heirs to the title! Long live the WAC!

Eddie George shamed in the Citrus Bowl? #I think he had a TD in that game. #And Tommie Frazier came in 2nd in the heisman that year, IMO Eddie George was the right pick

From an OSU perspective - #the Buckeyes were so upset at losing to Michigan and being knocked out of National Title consideration that the driving rain storm at the Citrus Bowl was just like a hangover of that disappointment.

Also sour grapes on Manning and the SEC IMO. Charles Woodson won the heisman as he led Michigan to the National Title that year, #while Manning led Tennessee to an SEC championship. Plus Woodson is the only primarily defensive player to have won the award which I think is great. We are talking College careers. #Even in the Pros Woodson has been a great player while every year that Manning continues to play bad in the post season his stock drops. # Can't beat New England, chokes last yr against Pittsburgh, 1st playoff game this year was bad. Even though I like him and hopes he wins the big one.

Florida's defense played very well I will give them that, they were the best team last night. #However that being said OSU did not play like OSU. #Not playing since Nov 18th hurt. #Losing their best player in Ginn hurt. Troy Smith winning the Heisman and not having preperation time at QB hurt. # Once again being the favorite hurt. #So don't be crowing too much, OSU still has 7 national titles 14 if you count them all. #2 Is still better than everyone else except Florida.

Once again this game proved College sports is very unpredictable. #In 2003 OSU didn't have a chance against Miami and they blew them out. #Last year Texas didn't even deserve to be on the field with USC with 2 heisman trophy winners and Texas won. #This year the Prognosticaters picked wrong on 18 out of the 23 bowls.

I don't know if anyone heard Troy Smith being interviewed by Jim Rome today and Rome and numerous callers talked about what a great, #articulate, grounded, credit to College Athletics he is. #He was very gracious and talked about if the worst thing that happens to him in life is losing a football game, what a great life. #That is a real credit to Tressel.

There are a lot of Dolphins fans who have come up with a few choice names for the former head coach Nick Saban. Most of them I can't put in a post on QRZ. But if Nick ever found himself in south Florida and suddenly noticed his pants were on fire, he would be hard pressed to find anyone who would throw water to put out the flames.

OTOH, those who would spit or take a leak on him would have to take a number and wait in line! #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I am a Peyton Manning fan. He is a good guy regardless of his talent.

Edit: Who is Woodson?

THE Ohio State University's defense seems to have missed the flight to the game, along with whomever was holding the in-game adjustment plans. Doesn't seem to matter that their best speed threat was injured while celebrating, because it's hard to beat anyone giving up 41 points. Well, make that 48, because the Gators could have easily scored again while they were running down the clock in the 4th quarter. Caulk this up as another year the Little Ten embarrassed themselves in the bowls. IMHO the Little Ten hurts themselves by not having a playoff. Put me in the corner of wanting to see a 8- or 16-team playoff

I'll second that proposal. Playoffs!
