I just recently aquired my great-grandfather's Patterson PR-10 AllWave Radio. Does anyone know how I can test to make certain that it is still in working condition. Also, it seems that the speaker plug is a bit odd by today's standard, how would I wire up a speaker for this? I would appreciate anything that anyone may be able to tell me. I really want to use this in my shack, if I can.

Hi Christopher
Check out this link for a schematic : Patterson PR 10 (http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/091/M0013091.htm)
And then this page for a write up. scroll down the page a ways. About the PR 10 (http://www.radioblvd.com/hamgear.htm)
If you do not have a variac to bring the voltage up slowly try to find someone in your area that has one that you can borrow or maybe will do it for you.
Good luck with the old radio it is a keeper.

A short visit with the W7DK/W7OS radio club of Tacoma gave me all I need to get started on getting this beautiful rig back on the air. One of the members gave it a careful examination and explained to me that I need to clean the chassis and replace any wires that have cracked insulation and the power cord for starters. From there, I need to visually inspect for any other damage and repair it. Once everything has been fixed, there is a device at the radio club that can be used to slowly bring it up to power (similiar to a variac). It was suggested that I may have to replace the main power transformer, but to wait on that until I have fixed the other things. One step at a time. Still, I was told to hang on tight to this rig, it is a keeper and it will be well worth fixing. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
P.S. I will post pictures once I have it up and running. I intend to use it for my QSL card picture.
