I'll remember that the next time somebody runs off at the mouth about how Clinton pardoned so many people.
Plain and simple, it appears as if the decider condones druggies. #It's not the amount of pardons, but whom is pardoned, as in Ford pardoning Nixon.

As a dyed in the wool liberal, this should make you happy that a humanitarian such as Bush is giving the poor and downtrodden a second chance.
After all isn't the liberal view of the US law is it simply is in the way and stops them from doing things contrary to law and needs to be discarded.

Liberals turn a blind eye to Judges giving light sentences to child molesters in Vermont.
So which is the lesser of the evils: Pardoning a "druggie" or letting a child MURDERER go UNPUNISHED and giving a CHILD RAPIST a mere 3 month sentence?

But pardoning common drug dealers? Gimme a break!
To use typical conservative rhetoric, what kind of message does this send? That it's okay to deal drugs, and you too can have a pardon?
Most street level drug dealers are themselves addicts pushed into the dealer level out of need and desperation. Few enter the drug dealing business to get rich. Most enter just to support a habit. Some get paid not even in cash but in the dope they need. Most are non-violent. If they show good behavior in jail and good progress towards recovery why not pardon them? Keeping them locked up ain't gonna make em any better and just costs taxpayers money.
Of course what would make even more sense would be to stop the stupid drug prohibition that has done virtually nothing other than create huge multinational drug cartels with extreme money and power.

What are you talking about ? Most murder, rape cases are tried in state courts. Since when does anyone "look the other way"or give a "slap on the wrist" when it comes to these crimes ?

This is due to the outrage of the good people of Vermont against "Restorative Justice".
If you think that "Restorative Justice" is only State problem, think again. There are Democratic Federal Appellant Judges that also believe in "Restorative Justice" like the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in SanFranNanLand.

Tiller was cleared by a Kansas State grand jury in an alleged wrongfull death. Much of the charges against Tiller were pushed forth by an anti-abortion focus group. To claim the attourney general influenced the grand jury is purely anecdotal. Further claims pushed forth since then have largely been the result of similar focus groups.

How much do you know about the case and the reasons behind the judges decision ? Who was this person ? What exactly did he do ? There are a lot of details that we may be unaware of. If this person truly is deranged then a prison stay is not going to change anything to any greater degree than counseling would or would not have. No, I am not saying that this person does not belong in jail.But sooner or later he is going to be released from jail and, if nothing has changed within, will more than likely commit similar offenses or worst. What to do with such people is a dilemna for our society. Do we simply execute them ? Do we give them automatic life sentences ? Do we give them, prison and counselling or just prison. What about when there sentences are up, do we register them. How do we know if the person has changed and will not committ further molestations ?

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "restorative justice" as the concept has many different forms. In a very general sense I would say there are cases where restorative justice makes good sense and other cases where it doesn't. The primary concept of restorative justice focuses on the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator rather than the perpetrator and the "state". Again, it depends upon the nature of the offense, the degree of harm done, how widespread the impact of the crime, and many other factors. Clearly, restorative justice in the case of a serial murderer may not be the best idea. In other cases it may make a great deal of sense and serve the community well.
Like anything else criminal justice is progressive and changes as society grows. At one time it was the dungeon or the guillotine for such "crimes" as stealing a slice of bread or committing adultery. These days that type of punishment for those "crimes" is no longer in vogue.
