Worked in 2 Sheriffs Offices, one City Police in Emergency Commo.
Currently with YCSRT in Search & Rescue and my ultimate goal is to obtain my Technicians License to become an active amateur.

"The moderators work overtime on this forum." -- understated.
WOLF, you can purchase the Technician Manual online from ARRL (www.arrl.org). It has all of the information you need as well as the current question pool (35 of which you would be tested on). I recommend you study the manual, find a ham to help you with practical electronics, and then find a VE group in your area to give you the test.
Cheers and good luck

PS, your best bet for radio info is in the Q&A forum.

ARRL.org should also have a listing of upcoming testing sessions in your area, which you can view by clicking Licensing | Exams | Find Upcoming Exams.. #For instance, checking within 50 miles of ZIP code 86301 [just because I found that ZIP code via Google], I see...

Hi Wolf,
I teach Tech classes. #If you can't find a class to study with you can do just fine with self-teaching.
Get one of the books. #I use Gordon West's books, some others use the ARRL books. #Read it cover to cover. #Twice. #Make that three times.
Take the practice tests on both QRZ and eHam. #Take them over and over until you can pass every time. #Toward the end of my self-study for my Extra exam I was taking three or more tests each day. #I passed with a 44/50. #I could have done better if I would have waited until the next test session but I was anxious to upgrade.
If you have any questions or would like some methods (tricks) to memorizing some of the answers, please e-mail me. #Along with the trick I also like to explain what the question is about and why the answer is correct. #I am not a big fan of simply memorizing answers.
Here is one question that is great for a memory trick.
What letters do all amateur radio licenses start with?
Trick - "We All KNoW what letters they are." #A, K, N & W. #Remember 'All Know'.
Lesson - The letters K,N and W can be used in a single letter prefix, like K8MHZ or W8AMZ. #The letter A must be used as a two letter prefix such as AB8RD. #The A prefixes are currently being given out as sequential call signs for Extra Class licensees. #The US also uses the Ks and the As in other forms of two letter prefixes. #AL and KL generally mean Alaska and KH usually means Hawaii. #KG is used for Guantanamo Bay. #The FCC used to require that your address dictated the number designator but that is no longer true. #The same goes for the letter prefixes. #So long as the holder is of a license class sufficient for the call they can have it anywhere in the US.
The question does not address the details, it only asks for the letters.
Good Luck,
Mark K8MHZ
