TRENTON, N.J. — Gov. Jon S. Corzine signed into law a measure Thursday enabling same-sex couples to live together in civil unions that will give them full rights of married heterosexuals, though without the word marriage.
"It's about doing the right thing," Corzine told 80 to 100 enthusiastic supporters at a signing ceremony for the legislation, which takes effect in mid-February.

Well sorry to say, but who didn't see this coming?
Well, in Alaska the government is supposed to start medical and other benefits for unmarried same-sex partners of employees next year, but the benefits will not be extended to unmarried opposite-sex partners of employees. I don't understand how they can discriminate like that.

Yeah, and you can also cultivate marijuana in your house, can't you?

Well, good for New Jersey.
The Alaskans do everything in the dark this time of year. That may explain it.

Catch the news earlier this week that marijuana is the #1 crop ($ value) in the United States? It exceeds corn, soy, wheat and the other top five by a pretty big margin.
And most of it comes from California, about 2/3 of the entire national crop.
I'm so proud. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Can you imagine marijuana as a biofuel?
I can see my Hyundai doing donuts in the road...without me in it.

opposite-sex partners can get all those benefits just by getting married. if they decided that any two people could get married they wouldn't have to discriminate at all!
What would you expect from a State where the former Govenor hung out, (no pun intended) at highway rest stops, looking for his next date.

I thought the ABC News article the other day was worded perfectly. It begins, "Weeding through..." http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Now, not to mislead anyone: In California, just like the other 49 states, it is definitely illegal to grow and sell marijuana except with a specific medical permit where growth and sales are limited to medical use. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
In other news: "Hey, man, did you catch that biker chick on the Sportster, back at that light...I mean, I forget which light, but it was one of 'em back there, just look back and uh, oh, no don't look back you could get dizzy, oh crap I spilled my pretzels."
I honestly don't know which would be better: Legalize marijuana, and it will lose all its illicit appeal, costs and prices will drop like a rock, and it will cease to be a cash crop forever, since any idiot can grow it anywhere there's sunshine; or, keep it illegal, keep it a multibillion cash crap that helps feed the economy.
Decisions, decisions...

Why should the State be involved in a religious decision like marriage in the first place? Why not just eliminate government intrusion into relationships. If I want to form a business partnership with someone then that can be a legal entity. Otherwise, marriage should have no government involvement.
I find it the height of nonsense that a basketball player can brag about bedding 19,000 women, but if some gal has two husbands, all h3ll breaks loose.

Because so many laws and societal norms are now intertwined into marriage that it's almost virtually impossible for the Government to get out of it.

Well to be honest, men are wired to basically plant their seed in as many places as possible, women are programmed to nurture and look for stability. It's just nature at work.

Hard to believe that in 2006 the reefer madness morons still prevail and use the same arguments for keeping it illegal.
