So does this mean for the next twelve days you are going to scream and shout about how dropping the Morse code proficienct test will cause the death of amateur radio as we know it?

Like a skin cancer you cover with a bandage, the cancer is still there. Ignoring it won't make it go away. I do favor the moderators efforts to limit the discussion to one or two messages.

No. Amateur Radio, as I knew it, died a long time ago.

I'm not going to let the changes I disagree with keep me from enjoying getting on the air.

I will not rant and scream. I'll find something else to comment on.

I intend to talk about code as much as usual. Just not in the context of code vs. no-code. Contrary to some who are hyper-sensitive, I took the pledge on that a long time ago. She's a-history.

It didn't die, you just have to sort through some garbage to get to the good stuff.

I agree with you as far as not letting policy decisions get in the way of enjoying that part of amateur radio that you like. Though the code requirement has been dropped, CW is not going anywhere.

I promise to continue to not care much about it.

I promise to continue to get a kick out of the gloating being done by the winners.

I promise to not care much about the whiners from either side.

I'll join you. I want to meet my goal of 25 wpm in the new year. I also need to learn my "bug" that I was given by a good freind of mine who did CW in the Coast Guard.

I'd take up ice fishing if it would ever get cold enough for the lake here to freeze. This warm winter is really cutting into my recreational drinking time.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif We had ICE on the pond in the neighborhood a week or two back, about thick enough to hold up a tadpole. The wierd part of the ice layer was...it did not cover the entire pons, just the SOUTH end. The NORTH wind would blow across the water and freeze AS it went across...but the north end was shielded by the strip of land beside the north edge of water...strange to tell about it here, but that is how it was. It might have been thick enough out from the south edge to support a ONE HALF POUND item, if that much weight. The ice lasted about 2 days / 3 nights. Now it is 55 degrees outside. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Tom will no longer lock down topics just because they get hairy.

I will talk to whom ever on VHF SSB and HF (when all is said and done)

I resolve to have my code speed up above 5 wpm by spring. I will use Morse even though proficiency is no longer required for advancement. I will urge other Technicians to do the same. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif I just wonder just how many times TECHNICIANS will flunk ( fail ) the written GENERAL & EXTRA tests ( remember the EXTRA has 50 questions in it alone ) 2 - 6 times before they finally get lucky on test day and memorize those questions enough to finally miss ONLY 13 out of 50 on their EXTRA test and (finally ) pass.

That is what I have been reading since 2002..that the written part of any amateur test was sooooooeasy and that it could be memorized in a very short time. I suppose NOW we just shall see how "easy " the GENERAL & EXTRA tests are for some of you folks.

Only time will tell.

Dont forget the smiley http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
