I have recently purchased a Yaesu FT-7800R.
I am wanting to modify it. #I was wanting to know if I need to unsolder the micro size part or will it come off with tweezers?

Any positive ideas?

1. What mods are you looking for?
2. Have you contacted the FoxTango web site?

From what Ive seen its simple just remove the R 1288 at the end of the column. Ive used Yaesu radios for years out of the country as multi service workhorse and emergency radios in remote areas with no problem until now. Two points of caution once you touch it the warrantee is void. I recently got a new FT 7800r had it modified for a trip. Several weeks ago I noticed reception was weak Ive lost 25% reception for reasons unknown.

Yaesu FT-7800R (FT 7800 R FT7800R) TX mod

With all control knobs facing towards you, Remove top cover, Notice Front Left corner is the processor with a crystal mounted on top.

Extreme left of the radio you will see a row of pads, All empty except for a diode to the front and one to the back, Notice 7 or 8 spots for diodes, But only 2 installed.

REMOVE the FRONT diode closest to the head of the radio with a small soldering iron or tool.

Turn the radio back on it will automaticaly reset.. See photo's of the FT-8800 and FT-8900R TX Mods, location of this diode is the same.

So long as you are in the USA, you can listen to what you desire (except for Cell stuff), however you cannot legally transmit out of band. Amateur radio equipment is not certified (used to be Type Accepted) for out of band use. You can use certified stuff on the amateur bands however, just not the other way around.

Thanks for all the advise and info. I used the tip of a pocket knife to remove the diode. Plugged it in and it reset itself. Working great.
