Special Prefixes for Mexican Stations

Dear Friends:

Starting January 1 through December 31 of 2007, we will be using special prefixes in Mexico in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Mexico's equivalent of the ARRL, Federación Mexicana de Radio Experimentadores (FMRE).

--XE1 stations will be using 6H1 prefix.
--XE2 stations will be using 6I2 prefix (That's Six India Two)
--XE3 stations will be using 6J3 prefix.

We are planning many portable and QRP ops for 2007, so please be listening for us!

Steve, XE1UFO (6H1UFO) a.k.a. KA5SUT

I heard that there has been a protest and that they will now be using W6, W5, W4 & W9 prefixes. As I understand it, this will be so that they will feel geographically at their home "20.

KEEP THE CODE REQUIREMENT AND RAISE IT BACK TO 20 W.P.M FOR EXTRA CLASS

Thanks for the information on this celebration by amateurs in Mexico.

I condemn the comments by a few hams that are racist and anti-immigrant.

Why is it ok to live in homes built by immigrants, eat food grown by immigrants, eat meat cut and packed by immigrants, have offices cleaned and maintained by immigrants...and then villify these fellow workers?

I think the large levels of immigration in recent years have made the US working class stronger, not weaker. And workers here have taken it on the chin for more than twenty years, working longer hours, under worsening safety conditions, for lower pay. This is not the fault of immigrants. In fact, the best and most successful struggles for better conditions and for respect for working people have been made up mostly of workers who are immigrants.

I for one say, GREAT!

I hope for closer and more fraternal ties between hams in Mexico and the US.

How do some hams manage to operate their converted CBs with those sheets over their heads? (Real hams show their faces, y'know) Oh, well, what can we expect from folks whose idea of 'homebrew" comes from pappy's still back in the hills. I'll cut them some slack in the rope they hang themselves with.

Seriously, I think these will be good cross border contact opportunities, and I congratulate the Mexican amateurs and look forward to working a lot of them from here in Texas.

Vaya pues amigos!

Don't think it's #antI-immigrant or racist.

when I have to be questioned, passport examined and infrequently seached before returning to the US, why is it equitable for others to do it illegally and not be criticized for it???

You are correct, it has nothing to do with immigrants or racists, it is about the 75th anniversary celebration of the Mexican equivalent of our ARRL. There are two posts prior to my original post that attempt to tie immigration and racism to this thread. That is to whom the first paragraph of my original post was directed. And I'm not sure where you cross the border, but where I cross at least twice a year (Pharr on the Texas side and Reynosa on the Mexican side), my drivers license has been sufficient when it was needed at all. I usually am asked if I am a citizen, if I have anything to declare, and am allowed to pass. In the past five years, I have been searched twice, and it was not an inconvenience. Starting next year, I will need to show my passport, but that isn't a problem. And the Mexican hams I know cross the river the same way I do, legally, and will have no problem showing their passports, either.

This isn't the first time that kf4eon is talking bad about the immigrants.
Congratulations FMRE for this 75 years.

We could have far worse neighbors than Mexico or Canada.

I look forward to more QSOs with stations in both countries.

FMRE deserves to be congratulated.
