Gee, wotta surprise:
Quote[/b] ]It was a solemn pledge, repeated by Democratic leaders and candidates over and over: If elected to the majority in Congress, Democrats would implement all of the recommendations of the bipartisan commission that examined the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
But with control of Congress now secured, Democratic leaders have decided for now against implementing the one measure that would affect them most directly...
From the Washington Compost. Would they lie, too?

No surprise. Like I've said, nothing will really change.
This is really gonna be fun.
Gotta wonder though, what haven't we heard the national talking heads bleeting about this? I'd be willing to bet this wasn't a front page, above the fold story.

Quote[/b] ]It may seem like a minor matter, but members of the commission say Congress's failure to change itself is anything but inconsequential. In 2004, the commission urged Congress to grant the House and Senate intelligence committees the power not only to oversee the nation's intelligence agencies but also to fund them and shape intelligence policy. The intelligence committees' gains would come at the expense of the armed services committees and the appropriations panels' defense subcommittees. Powerful lawmakers on those panels would have to give up prized legislative turf.
But the commission was unequivocal about the need.
"Of all our recommendations, strengthening congressional oversight may be among the most difficult and important," the panel wrote. "So long as oversight is governed by current congressional rules and resolutions, we believe the American people will not get the security they want and need."
Now Democrats are balking, just as Republicans did before them.

Hello.
Yes, one part of the 9/11 commission plan was rejected.
The primary trouble would be one of placing a person on the intel' committee without a term limit is that the term now coincides with the term of office.
The other, having the committee control the intel' budget, Israel is totally against the idea.
Israel now gets over 70% of all of the foreign aid.
The US did not up the aid to Isreal, just cut back to everyone else.
Something about Iraq.

It is interesting that there is no quote from a Democrat even inferring this reported stance. Quote[/b] ]Instead, Democratic leaders may create a panel to look at the issue and produce recommendations, according to congressional aides and lawmakers. which translates to, "We can print vomit that right wingers love to lap up."
We all know you're fu..., well I guess I can say you are fun to read, sometimes, Albert.

The bottom line is, donkey or elephant, red, blue, white, green, yellow or whatever.....
They are all politicians, and they will all make promises to get elected. Once they get elected, that good old selective amnesia kicks in.
And, invaribly, they get re-elected....because we forget also.
Me personally, if they were elected and kept every promise, I'd probably be checking them for some kind of illness!

Good post here, but my statement was on the reported stance. The Post's Jonathan Weisman did not quote a Democrat on the stance that there would be little or no compliance with the 9-11 commission recommendations.
As for Albert, I see a great synergy between UPI and the Post. They really play articles and quote each other.
But I really don't know why you post comPOST references.

What the "story" says is the Democrats may re-examine one recomendation of the 911 commission. I would hope so, that is what they are supposed to do!
Quote[/b] ]Democratic leaders have decided for now against implementing the one measure that would affect them most directly: a wholesale reorganization of Congress to improve oversight and funding of the nation's intelligence agencies. Instead, Democratic leaders may create a panel to look at the issue and produce recommendations, according to congressional aides and lawmakers.
More nonsense from MIV. Who would give any credence to MIV's opinion when he claims to be a Democrat?

THAT will get a lot done, for sure. Don't kill it, just study it quietly for a decade or two before you consider implementing it.

Do you really expect much to change? Maybe a little window dressing?
I recall 1968. A lot of people voted for Nixon (probably enough that they tilted the election) because they thought he would be more likely to get us out of VietNam than Hubert H. We finally did get out seven years later... in humiliating defeat.
Bush just stated that we will remain in Iraq until we have successfully achieved our goals there (whatever that means).
So, hopefully the disasterous mess in Iraq won't totally collapse for at least two more years, then our humiliation can be blamed on the administration that takes power in 2008.

Nancy Pelosi condemned the new record highs of the stock market as "just
another example of Bush policies helping the rich get richer".
"First Bush cut taxes for the rich and the economy has rebounded with
new record low unemployment rates, which only means wealthy employers
are getting even wealthier at the expense of the underpaid working
class".
She went on to say "Despite the billions of dollars being spent in Iraq
our economy is still strong and government tax revenues are at all time
highs. What this really means is that business is exploiting the war
effort and working Americans just to put money in their own pockets".
When questioned about recent stock market highs she responded "Only the
rich benefit from these record highs. Working Americans, welfare
recipients, the unemployed and minorities are not sharing in these
obscene record highs".
"There is no question these windfall profits and income created by the
Bush administration need to be taxed at 100% rate and those dollars
redistributed to the poor and working class".
"Profits from the stock market do not reward the hard work of our
working class who, buy their hard work, are responsible for generating
these corporate profits that create stock market profits for the rich.
We in congress will need to address this issue to either tax these
profits or to control the stock market to prevent this unearned income
to flow to the rich".
When asked about the fact that over 80% of all Americans have
investments in mutual funds, retirement funds, 401K's, and the stock
market she replied "That may be true, but probably only 5% account for
90% of all these investment dollars. That's just more "trickle down"
economics claiming that if a corporation is successful that everyone
from the CEO to the floor sweeper benefit from higher wages and job
security which is ridiculous". How much of this "trickle down" ever get
to the unemployed and minorities in our county? None, and that's the
tragedy of these stock market highs."
"We democrats are going to address this issue after the election when we
take control of the congress. We will return to the 60% to 80% tax rates
on the rich and we will be able to take at least 30% of all current
lower Federal Income Tax taxpayers off the roles and increase government
income substantially. We need to work toward the goal of equalizing
income in our country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich
can invest."
When asked how new these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied "We
need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and
minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal
immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of
unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a
long ways to guarantee these people the standard of living they would
like to have as Americans"
A Bush spokesman responded to this interview by saying "Mrs. Pelosi has

Some people live in their own little white collar worlds and can't see the forest for the tree's.The Republicans piles of crap are much larger than the Democrats.Just look behind an elephant and then look behind a mule.Friends don't let friends vote Republican, you get the same result as driving drunk, which is what has been going on for the last 6 years,at least wait until the new Democrats get in office b4 you criticize what they haven't done yet, some people remove all doubts about their ignorance buy opening their mouthes about crap they know nothing about, which is a common Republican trait displayed By George W.Just my two cents worth .
