Grade B horror and sci fi films seemed to go hand in hand with the "drive in" theatre era, which I caught the very end of. Not many "drive-in's" were left by the time I was "old enough".
However, some of my favorite grade B movies live on DVD. Some of my favorites are...
1) "I Bury the Living" - Richard Boone. A cemetary director causes people to die within 24 hours when he sticks black pins into spots on a map representing the victims future grave site.
2) "Carnival of Souls" - Candace Hilligos A attractive and talented young girl dies when her car goes off a bridge. But somehow she emerges from the wreck to be hounded by a ghoul who wants to take her back to the other world. Very eerie and Twighlight Zone like.
3) "The Blob" - Steve McQueen - Steve McQueen in his early days. The title speaks for itself.
4) "Phantom planet" - spacemen exploring dissapearing space ships discover a planet of tiny people
5) "Phantom Creature from 10,000 Leagues" - Sea monster created by radiation experiment terrorizes boaters/swimmers.
6) "Dementia 13" - still haven't figured what the heck is supposed to be happening.
Well there are a few all time favorites.

I think my favorite B sci-fi movie is one made in 1950 or 1951, called "This Island Earth." A movie that has a rather significant cult following. Recently re-released on DVD.

Interesting. And it all started with an order of electronic parts according to the description I read.

Return of the Living Dead (1985) - it was a crack on all the other living dead flicks and funny as hell. It's also the only movie I actually paid attention to at the drive-in. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Yepper, that's how it started. The scientists ordered some parts, the order was intercepted and instead they were sent a complete kit for assembling one interocitor.
One of my favorite quotes from the movie: "Here's one my wife could use in the kitchen... an interocitor incorporating an electron sorter. She'd probably gain ten pounds while it did all the work for her."
"Santa Claus Conquers the Martians"
Ugh. I should print a t-shirt that says, 'I survived watching "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians."'
Favorite B-movie: "The Wizard of Speed and Time"

"Klaatu, Berata nicto!" was from The Day the Earth Stood Still. Great Bernard Herrmann score.
The "giant ants" movie that I recall was "Them," and I think it starred James Whitmore who went on to become the gnome in the garden.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/killtomato/) has to rank right up (down?) there somewhere!
Not sure if X - The Unknown (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049967/) could be considered a 'B' movie. It was pretty well presented.

The most memorable ones for me are the time, back in 1971 or 72, when I paid a visit to some friends who were living in NYC at the time. We decided to take in a couple of flicks at a late night double feature at some little off-the-wall cinema; don't recall the street it was on, but it was right on the edge of "Spanish Harlem." One of the guys and his girlfriend had come down from Maine for a visit, and they brought with them some really good weed. We all got a nice buzz on, then took the NYC subway late at night, which was an experience in itself. We attended the double feature, which showed "The Night of the Living Dead" and "Freaks" (an early 1930's film that used real circus freaks as the actors). Then, we took the NYC subway home again, just about as the last train was running for the night.
That experience was a hard act to follow.

That's a classic. I forgot about it. Some great quotes:
Quote[/b] ]Farmer Gene Green: Where's my dog! Where's my Pooh Bear!
Mike Tobacco: Isn't this place great or what? It looks like it was decorated by Klowns R Us.
MST 3K was great. Wouldn't mind seeing that again on Saturday mornings.
Favorites:
Plan 9 From Outer Space
The Spirit Is Willing
Funny Bones (not really horror, more surprises and comedy)
It's In the Bag
I Saw What You Did (spawned literally dozens of copy-cat versions).
Little Shop of Horrors
Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine
Endless Summer 1 & 2.
A LOT of the old beach movies.
There was one about a farmer (Farmer Vincent??) who killed people and then grew them in the fields. That one was great. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

"The House on Haunted Hill", with the plastic skeleton coming out above the audience on a wire. The wire broke during the showing I saw back in the late 50s, and the skeleton landed on a group of teenage girls. A millisecond later, the skeleton was in pieces and the girls were GONE!

Hello.
I have seen such a number of grade B horror flicks that it has warped my mind.
I like to do cowboy, but not your normal everyday cowboy.
I have taken several flash units from disposable cameras and built spark units.
I have a tesla coil in a briefcase that helps to do shooting sparks stunts.
Halloween is fun.

I would be remiss if I failed to promote one of the greatest 1950s-style Sci-Fi "B"-bugetted creature-features ever made.
