I'm sure many others have discovered this trick a long time ago, but flipping through the manual for my FT857D earlier I noticed the beacon features that it has and thought "Hey, this will work great as a memory keyer!"
So I programmed in "CQ CQ CQ DE N3ZL N3ZL K" as beacon 1, and set it to transmit every 10 seconds, and tada, works like a charm. There are a total of 3 beacons, so, for example, you could program a contest CQ, your exchange info, and a 73s message and you're set.
Not terribly advanced but it seems to work quite well so far. I hope someone else finds this useful.
