Hey, anyone else here enjoy creating your own phonetics? I like to but mine is tough (actually it's easy but the options are kinda shaky). Lets hear some of your phonetics. #

No.

While it may be funny to use such phonetics for chit-chat with your local buddies, it is obvious that you shouldn't use such made up phonetics for normal QSOs. It's outright annoying, it slows down operation and significantly increases the chance to have your callsign miscopied.

dj1yfk is right. Definately don't use those when contesting, major major no, no.

But for me, my alternative phonetics are King-Italy-4-Mexico-Yokohama-Denmark. I'd say that most of the time it's okay to use generally accepted phonetics such as America instead of alpha, and Denmark instead of Delta, especially when the person on the listening side just cannot distinguish a delta from an alpha, or yankee from india (had it happen to me many times).

Yes. When I do contesting in SSB, it's usually with our club callsign, DM7A. If, after trying twice, the other station continues to copy one letter wrong (for example Delta -> Sierra), I repeat with Denmark Mike 7 Alpha.

To a certain degree, it's also OK to use widely accepted alternative phonetics (America, ...), but I personally try to avoid them whenever possible.

I agree with DJ1YLK,the use of phonetics other than the Standard recognized Phoentics is just asking for the call to be misquoted. It is the mark of a LID or POOR operator.

Don't try to be cute and use phonetics the guy at the other end may have never heard before,it simply VOIDS the whole purpose of the use of phonetics.

If you must prove that you are clever and cute mispell your name, don't confuse your calls. # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

don't make such a problem about this topic, everyone can just make phonetics, the fact that you have phonetics doesn't mean you use them.

I think I know to use international phonetics. As well as I don't see anything wrong with making up your own phonetics for fun. Ham radio is a fun hobby, so we can have fun with it such as messing with our calls. I think you are taking this post which was SUPPOSED to sort of a fun thing to do, to seriously. If calls weren't for having fun with as well as an "I.D." then there wouldn't be vanity calls. So just chill, this post is for fun and no one would use un-offical phonetics like these. If you have a problem with me trying to make the hobby more fun, sort that out with me.

HEHE, our W4CA SE, one operator was using Wiskey Four Confederate Army... They got more contacts than using Charlie Alpha.

Im an old Army grunt that was used to working PRC-77s so I always, out of habit and syntimental reasons, use the Military Phonetics.

Roger Tango?

Andrew

Two-echo-one-information-design-technology. I think I must have just been very unlucky when issued with my callsign to get one with the initials of a school subject.

Mine is, King Edward 5 Father Isaac Xerxes(or Xanthippe, Xmas, X-ray).

Ok, I know it isn't really made up, but it is made up from many different phonetics list. It is kinda in between home made and standard.
