Heh, I saw christmas stuff being put out on display at the local Walmart a few days before my birthday, Oct 22.
I remember when I could at least not see it till after I had added another year to the self-odometer.
It used to be Christmas started around Thanksgiving. Now its almost a 3 month holiday http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
And people wonder why, by the time it comes, that people are sick of it http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Costco began selling decorations since September!

Talk about being way ahead of the curve....
But I guess people are looking for that stuff already.
They don't usually start around here till Thanksgiving weekend, maybe a week earlier.
One of the local department stores, "Younkers", had Christmas decorations on sale in August.
That reminds me, I need to find my lights for the house.

Give me a break. Stop listening to KUDL-FM. Tune to 98.9, the Rock. You can avoid Xmas music so soonly.

There was a photograph in a British national newspaper about a month ago which showed workmen installing Christmas lights in the main street of a town, but where I cannot remember.
People were a bit angry about it and especially when they put the lights on one night. And I heard Christmas tunes being played at the end of September in a supermarket.

They put up the Christmas decorations over the street over 3 weeks ago here. Must be a bad year for sales. That's the only time they do that. If you get a chance to see the New York Marathon, you'll see the area near the QTH here. They go by a block from here. Right past those same Christmas decorations... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I love Christmas but I believe alot of stores are jumping the gun. I'm seening Xmas decorations out in stores 2 weeks before Halloween. It seems like Nov 1st is the start of Christmas season now. When I was a kid it started right after Thanksgiving. Christmas is great but to much of a good thing can ruin it.

I agree, Xmas is being put upon us so, your local retailer can rake in tons of $$$$$$$$. Same goes for radio / tv stations, they want those advertising $$$$$.
Xmas is not what it used to be.

If I can make it through one year without hearing "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town", by Bruce Springsteen, it will be a great holiday.

Sure - Wally-Mart is putting out Christmas decorations on their counters now - smart business move on their part and the competition is aping them. #
Consider folks, if they waited until after Thanksgiving to put out Christmas decorations then those 1 or 2 paychecks that the rank and file earn between the two holidays may not be enough to buy all the Christmas gifts AND new Christmas decorations. #
And what family would want to be the only ones on the block without the latest blow up, rotating and lighted Santa Claus and reindeer in a large plastic bubble sitting proudly on the front lawn? #
So WMT gets the Christmas decorations out early so the hoi polloi can buy the decorations on pre-Thanksgiving paychecks.
WMT - Closed at 43.02 on 7/16
# # # # ##Closed at 48.85 today 11/01 - down from last weeks high of 51.20.
Keep spending those hard earned dollars at WMT folks, I can use the capital appreciation.

KW4MW you have a good point, Businesses stretching the season so people can spread the spending over more weeks sounds good.
K1OU your lucky you don't live in NJ, since Bruce comes from New Jersey it means his Xmas songs get played more here then else were in the USA.
Also the Coca-Cola Xmas cans with Santa on the can started selling today.

There's a store in Austin, Tx that sells Christmas stuff year round. I've often wondered who decides to buy Christmas decorates in April. I guess someone since the store has been there for many many years http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Christmas, CHRISTmas - - - - what in the world is CHRISTMAS ? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif ?
Oh, you mean X-Mas, don't you, or even "The Holidays". Now I get it ! ! ! Talk about taking Christ out of Christmas/X-Mas/"The Holidays"
BTW, there is a not-so-funny joke that goes, "How do you know that Halloween is almost here?" "Simple, it happens about the time when everybody starts putting out the Christmas items in the stores! " http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
